Default Does the Ap2 Engine Drive Similar to the H22?

I've never had a chance to drive an Ap2, but I've owned older Preludes with the H22 VTEC engine. Just curious if the engines feel similar, other than the difference in revs. I recall that VTEC hit pretty hard on the H22 and it had a pretty good powerband up to 7400 rpms. Just curious how the two engines compare, for anyone that may have driven both.

I own both. The Prelude is great and pulls very strong as you know. You can definitely feel and hear vtec too. The S does the same but just a hair different. It feels like a Prelude thats wrapped a little tighter. Around 6k, you're ready to shift because you can tell its running pretty high, then you realize you haven't even hit vtec. Once you do, the thing sounds like its going to blow up.

I autocross my S and had to get audible shift indicator to make sure I didn't shift too early, because you think you need to when you hear it.

I owned a BB6. The engine in the AP2 feels more robust. More torque, shorter gearing, and just generally more responsive. They feel similar as they approach the VTEC transition, but the AP2 is lighter and more powerful. Similar engine characteristics, but much better chassis in the AP2.

the f22 feel faster, and revs quicker, but i think that it is partially because of the shorter gearing in the s2k.

i think that if you put them both in the same car, the h22a would prolly have a little more torque, and the f22 would feel lighter, and more high sprung, but then again my 4th get lude is set up a lot different then my s2k.

I think the H22 feels more meaty in the low end, which suits the Prelude which feels more like a cruiser, whereas the F22 is more revhappy, suiting the gokart feeling of the S2000.

This thread is interesting...Especially since the H22 and the F20/22 are from a similar design theory when compared to the B series motor(i.e. FRM lined cylinder walls for one).

thanks for all of the replies, I can understand how they compare based on these descriptions now. Thinking about it now the stroke on the h22 must be longer, hence the decent torque feeling I got in the Prelude. Yeah the Prelude was more a cruiser type of car, it was very tractable from low rpms and cruising on the highway was a nice experience. But it seemed topped out at 7400, I can see how the ap2 would pull better up top based on the engine upgrades designed for higher rpms. The ap2 engine sounds like the best of both worlds, I'd like to try one out someday. I love my Ap1 though.
