does the S2000 cause lung/skin cancer?
lol. i worry about this kind of stuff too like the OP. maybe b/c i'm in the healthcare field and I see all different kinds of diseases. IMO, I leave the top-down business for the night when there are no cars around. I didn't know that our cabin filters were that inadequate to allow exhaust gases to pass through. But yeah, I guess i'm just a whimp for not putting the top-down.
I do find myself in a dilemma when it's really hot but I don't want to turn on the A/C as it bogs the car down and slows acceleration or crack open the windows cus it'll allow pollutants into the cabin.

I hate driving after old trucks and cars. Especially the 1994-1996 Chevy Impala. That car is emitting pure poison!
I usually pass them holding my breath. If it's a one lane road, I put some distance in between, which helps.

i was thinking about this the other day as i drove behind a diesel dump truck that was spewing the most God-awful black smoke in my face for a mile.
i guess this isn't just S2000-specific, but rather, it relates to all convertibles...but i've read that breathing in automobile exhaust on a regular basis for an extended period of time is just as bad or worse than smoking cigarettes. i ask because my aunt, who has never smoked cigarettes, got diagnosed with lung cancer a little while ago. she did, however, ride on a school bus for many years, so they're thinking that might have been the main contributing factor.
i have noticed that i cough a lot more after driving with the top down in truck-heavy areas, like Alexandria, VA and other places. with the top up, you're breathing air that goes through a filter, so many of the pollutants and particles are caught and never make it into the cabin, right?
i'm wondering if this is a reason to sell the S2000 or at the very least, leave the top up on days where ozone is at dangerous levels. also, i'm thinking of putting a small tube of sunscreen in the glovebox to protect the skin.
does anyone else worry about this?

been driving convertibles for 34 years now, since I live in S. Cal. I hardly ever have the top up, it can stay down for 10-11 months at a time (we do get some rain, rarely).
I still don't have lung cancer or skin cancer. Since I also sail I do get checked for skin cancer, have to admit not been tested for lung cancer.
Enjoy the top down, quit worrying.
