Default For does who have added an oil pressure gauge

I am curious what maximum oil pressure people have hit. My gauge only goes to 99 pounds, but I have hit that, especially on a cold morning. I run 10-30w oil. Once the car completely warms up, it runs between 30-85 pounds.

Thanks
Greg

gdw,

Same here. The oil pressure remains VERY high until it reaches about 165 degrees.
At this temperature it begins to fluctuate between 30 psi at idle and 85 psi on acceleration and cruise. To me, this is another reason to not go into vtec until I have driven 6 miles or more to allow the oil to reach a more 'compliant' temperature.

ReedZ

ps. I'm still looking for a pressure sender that will allow readings above 99 psi.

James,

I believe that the Nordskog gauges only goes to 99 psi, and that it not a problem with the sending unit. There are probably other brands that do, but I haven't found one.

Greg,

It's also the sending unit, it has 100 PSI inscribed on the nut. The search continues.

I run with Mobil 1 5W 30 in the winter time here and my max oil pressure on startup has been 90psi. When my engine has warmed up it ranges from 27 to 85psi in normal driving.

When I run with 10W 30 in the summer, will the psi range be higher?
