I find that the oil level drops to the minimal level on the dipstick every two weeks.

I remeber that people were saying that the high revs in the car burns oil off pretty fast.

I have 17,000 miles and VTEC alot. This is normal right?

Thanks,

Let me tell ya a story. I had 2700 miles on my car when the oil light will start appearing, not in driving but when i came to a stop. Well that was enough for me to get scared shi?less so i brought it in for service. The tech performed an emissions test, checked for burning etc. Well anyway it was dismissed as normal break in but bring it in to look at 3700. This time i was a quart low, so it appears to be slowing down in oil consumption. They filled me up again and i was on my merry way but suggested i come in at another 2K for a complete flush, not just this topping off bullshi?. In a few weeks i'll be doing this. Mind you this has all been free of charge. I heard that the break in for this car is 5K miles. I hope thats the case otherwise i feel thats a flaw in the car and Honda will have to work it out with me.

I would say that your car is using oil excessively. I think it is time to discuss it with a mechanic and look for a loss other than expected consumption.

Changed my oil the first time, about a week ago, and it was a quart low. I had been watching it for about the last 1,000 miles to be sure it wasn't going to be a problem. I don't think these engines should burn the amount of oil you are talking about. However,
I haven't got nearly the miles on mine that you have. Now parked for the winter.

as i posted before, i burned over a quart during the first 1,000 miles and still burn some- just not as much. i VTEC every time i drive it. i would guess that VTEC requires a little extra oil to be burned..

This post reminds me of some of the posts our avid track guys have made about big poofs of blue smoke when on the track under certain conditions. The speculation there was oil splashed up from crank case ventilation was being burned and so on and so forth. You say you drive hard on a regular basis, I wonder if you are experiencing the poof phenomenon on a regular basis?

I'm usually about 1 qt low in say 2000 miles or so, and that seems totally reasonable to me...

Your amount seems pretty excessive though...

Doesn't sound right. I VTEC all the time, I check the oil frequently, and top it off if it drops a notch. In 8,000 miles I've added about 2 1/2 quarts, most when it was really green.

Well, maybe I'm exagerating.

But, let's see. October 31, I oil level on the dipstick was about 3/4 the way full.

I checked it today, and it's on the minimal mark.

At 4000 miles, my car was consuming an alarming amount of oil. The Honda rep wanted to measure consumtion over a given time period.

But now, at 9000 miles, things are normal. And this without oil change, I do that next week for 1st time.
