I have 5,000 miles on the odo and I vtec every time I drive it. The car has NEVER used a drop of oil. I am curious as to how you broke the car in.

I've got roughly 13,500 miles on my car and I've changed the oil every 3000 miles and I've never had to add oil. It used a very small amount in the first 1000 miles but not enough to need oil added. My guess is that if I wanted to push it I could go 7000 or 8000 miles without adding. I don't drive it overly hard or overly easy on the street but it has been autoXed regularly.

I used a half a quart in the frist 2000 miles none since. And I drive this car pretty hard. I don't think the car should burn any oil or very little after the first 5000 miles.

That's what I kept thinking when this topic came up a while back. I was very careful during break-in so when I checked my oil I almost passed out. No VTEC for 600 miles and never been to 9K and it used almost 2 quarts of oil with about 1500 miles on it! I've been checking weekly since then, but with winter here the car is in the garage so it's not driven much.

Although every car is different, the reason they say to vary loads is to assist in break-in. Taking it real easy is better than being hard on it but it is not really varied loads.

Since I had to drive mine a good way home, I was very careful for the first fifty miles, and then did some heavier loads driving 50 to 105 mph (all under 5500 rpm). My car has never used any oil.

Each car is different but if it is still using a lot of oil after 10K miles, I would at least complain and get a record in case you have later warranty claims.

I would tend to agree with Chris. I have about 17,000 miles on mine and it stopped using oil after about 4,000 miles. I think that you probably need to have it checked out by a competent shop.

Hmmm...sounds like I have to get it checked out.

By the way, I broke the car in well. I only passed 6000 rpm by accident once around 400 miles.

Thanks guys!

Unicron
I own the s2000 and have driven 4000km (equals 2500miles, I guess). Oil consumption is abnormal, I threw in 3 liters already.
Break-in was really cautious, never exceeded
5000rpm in the first 1000 miles, now yes I am Vtec-ing often. I think we have a similar problem, I do not even leave without a spare
oilcan in the trunk. I approached my cardealer and want to have this solved.
Since I live in the netherlands the car has a catalyzer which I suspect must have been ruined by the oilconsumption. Costs will be
around 1500 usd for that part alone, I think.
The dealer wanted prove of the consumption, so he topped off. After only 300 km (200miles) I could show him the level was already dropping. He is contacting the importer (honda-holland) to check it out.
Honda holland already informed that the consumption is abnormal if it drops below
1 liter per 5000 km (and that is the worst case - 1 liter per 10000 seems more reasonable). I'll keep you posted

It seems that some S2000s are oil hungrier than others, and mine belongs to the former. When I brought my car in to the dealer for the second check up at 5000km (about 3500 miles) I found out that the oil was at the minimum (low) level. I thought this was because of the break in period. But the oil level has come down to the minimum again only after 3000km (2000 miles) from the check up. I put it into VTEC almost every time I drive the car, but I do not consider myself a hard driver. The engine runs great, but I will take my car to the dealer and ask if there is anything wrong with it.

First 3k miles, 3 full quarts.

Was worried.

Changed oil. Another 2k miles, 0.5 quarts. After 5k miles, it stopped burning oil.

I hit vtec during break in a couple of times, and redlined it everyday multiple times after it was broken in.
