You've probably checked around the head gasket & valve cover gasket, right? I have a *little* oil seapage around them, but not enough to even drip down the side of the block. Nevertheless, I'm going to bring it to the dealer and have them take a look.

It's not enough to actually explain oil loss (ok, maybe 5cc of oil over 17k miles), so I'm not worried, but it really shouldn't be there. Maybe you have something similar?

Never used any oil at all, although I only start pressing the car after 9300 miles. But it never missed a drop for the additional 3000 miles of 100% spirited driving. The only think I can point is that when the car was running on original oil I noticed that the intake was kind of oily. Check it out and if thats the case you may have a faulty PCV

Unicron,
Are you running with a synthetic oil? If so, at what point did you change over to it? This does indeed sound like excessive oil consumption.

I remeber that people were saying that the high revs in the car burns oil off pretty fast.

I have 17,000 miles and VTEC alot.

since the oil consumption is spectacular I agreed with the dealer that oil presently in would be replaced by the oil they advised - being texaco synthetic 5w40 - not the cheapest, I can tell you that. I have to drive till the oil level is on minimum on the stick and then we/ll see how may km's were driven

I have to admit guys this has never been a problem for me.

The Stook has a myriad of little problems (including a very occasional 2nd gear grind and a very frequent "wants to shift from 2nd to 5th and not 3rd"), however, even after 3 track days and twice weekly caning around my favourite twisties, it hasn't used a drop in 20,000 kms.

I broght my car to the dealer and asked about the seemingly exessive oil consumption. The mechanic I talked to checked the exhaust pipes and said that they were "clean" and, given the fact that I've seen neither black smoke coming out from my car nor oil stains on my garage floor, the engine seemed to have consumed the oil. He couldn't tell, however, why it needs this much oil. What we will do is the following: first, add more oil so that oil gage shows the right amount of oil stored in the pan. Then, second, when I go back to the dealer for the next oil change (which is about 2,000km away and the total milage of the car will be10,000km), we measure precisely how much oil the engine consumes. Meanwhile, he will contact Honda Tech Line and see if other cars show similar symptom. I will go back to the dealer on Thursday, so I can post whatever information I get from them. The engine runs great, and I wonder if this problem simply goes away as some of you mentioned here.

Unicron it definately seems as though you have a problem. My car, at 14k miles, hardly burns a drop. I don't drive it quite like I used to, but I do still VTEC on occasion.

A seemingly simple solution would be to do a compression test, then a leak down test. This is a very simple and easy job to do, maybe you could buy a tester and do it yourself? Then, if the numbers are low, insist Honda themselves performs the test. The compression test will tell you if the rings are worn, which is the cause of burning oil 90% of the time. A leak down test will test the effectiveness of the valve seals, etc. If both of these numbers check out OK, I would have the PCV valve checked, or other related systems. This should go a long way in solving your problem. HTH

My car has over 10k mis on it, is on it's second oil & filter change since purchase, and does not use oil. I, also, Vtec (at least to 8k) all the time. That's what I bought it for. If I'm remembering correctly though, I may have added about 1/3 of a qt during the first 2000 mis. BTW, as of this last oil and filter change, I'm using Mobil 1 synthetic.
