Door lock behavior question
You ordered the correct filter. Has instructions on it to torque 7/8 turn after gasket contact and numbers around the perimeter to aid that. (There's also a torque spec if you have a wrench.) Gotta be tight though no one yet has demonstrated the hand strength to do it without tools.

Yes, the printed on filter instructions mention the 7/8 turn and had the clocking indicators on it as well. Because I am a tool whore I used it as an excuse to buy the special Honda tool 07AAA-PAAA100 that gave me the leverage to tighten it properly.
I had planned to unplug the connector that is right near the filter to make access from the top easier but it wouldn't come off easily even though I thought I was pressing the release lever properly so rather than risk damaging a connector I just worked around it. Are there any videos demonstrating the correct procedure for Honda connectors? I am more familiar with VAG items.

I always unplug that one to do the oil filter. The molded cover has an indentation that kinda helps locate where to squeeze the connector release.
Its much like other common automotive electrical plugs. Squeeze point is near where wires exit connector.
Driving the car at all spiritedly will reveal limits of all seasons on this car. But in this circumstance it seems the right choice.
Sounds like this lady would be a big hit at any local S2000 gatherings. Hopefully she can be persuaded to attend something!

That is pretty much the same as VAG connectors where you push them on a bit more and hit the lever and they pop off pretty easily. May just be 16 years of inertia so it is really set in its way and doesn't want to move now.
Her niece will be the primary chauffeur and I am sure she would be happy to swing by a meet so if anyone knows of any near San Diego I would appreciate a pointer. Be warned though that like most Filipina Grandmothers she will be compelled to cook something for any gathering...lol

I looked through there but seems to be pretty dead in general and a meet hasn't been advertised in quite a while. I will keep an eye out anyway, we have pretty much the most ideal year round weather in the country so something will eventually happen.
Sounds like the original poster's door locks are working the way they should.
Here is how to unlock the passenger door from the driver's side.
When unlocking the driver's door, when you turn the key in the door, hold it turned for two seconds or so, a bit longer than you normally would,
You'll hear the passenger door unlock a bit after the 1st one.

Thanks for the reminder! Yep, page 63 in my Owner's Manual -- and something I'd forgotten because I don't recall ever locking or unlocking the doors with the key.
Is there a key in the passenger's door? Don't recall a key hole and hate to ask but I can't get to that side of my car right now.

Both doors lock when you use the
key in the driver’s door. Using the
key in the passenger’s door only
locks and unlocks that door.
To unlock only the driver’s door
from the outside, insert the key in
the driver’s door lock, turn the key
and release it. If you turn the key
and hold it, both doors will unlock.

1. Try it again. Just locked my '06 this way. The remote is much easier so I keep one with the ignition key.
1a: Open the door.
1b: Pull and hold inside (or outside) door handle.
1c: Lock door from inside.
1d: Close door.
I've tried that, but the inside lock won't move when the door is open and the outside handle is pulled? I'm not using more pressure than is usually needed to lock the door.

This locking procedure is what I remember for every Honda my wife or I have ever owned. At least half-dozen. The passenger door locks electrically (clunk) when this or other procedures are executed..
You can confirm the electrical link from the driver's door lock works with the remote and also with the key in the driver's door. If this method doesn't work start looking for disconnected wires in the drivers door -- no clue just where to look but the Service Manual and electrical diagrams are in the library.
