Door open light keeps coming on

Pushing in will tell the car the door is closed (won't activate the door signals).

You're trying to get plungers that are stuck in... to pop out appropriately.

Which is different than the OP's situation.

i pushed it in a few times and eventually the dash light, dome light, tones came on, i guess its just starting to wear out. or can i clean it?

Yes, or order new ones, or don't bother. Pushing it in and out a few dozen times might actually unstick it enough to be okay. They just corrode and stick a little.
