Default doubts about the s2k...

... man reading this is causing me to have some major doubts about purchasing the s2k.
sounds as if even though it's not a regular HONDA vehicle, honda's service dept. are still assholes and service this vehicle as if it's another ricey honda that some ricerboy messed up.
HOW COME SO MANY OF YOU ARE EXPERIMENTING ALL THESE PROBLEMS WITH THIS AMAZING CAR.
honda makes amazing cars and i keep reading stuff about bad windows, check engine lights and what not constantly going on, rattling, shacking, crackling, and what not... WHAT'S UP WITH THAT?
is the s2k a good car or bad car?????

Go check any other board for any other Honda... then go check boards for any other maker, especially domestics.

I think you'll find that the S2k still has fewer problems, not only compared to other cars, but other manufacturers, too.

The S2k IS a good car. All first year model cars have some problems, especially for a new design like the S2k. I think you will notice the '01's have significantly fewer problems than the '00's, and I'm sure the '02 will be even better.

I think you'll find that problems are as rare with the S2 as they are with any other Honda. You think there are more because this is a fairly tight-knit community and you're visiting the place where all of these problems are voiced. I just turned 17,000 miles on my car, I have had it less than a year, it's turbocharged and I've had ZERO problems. That's right ZERO problems. My car is probably driven harder than just about any other S, except for maybe Wesmaster's.

never said it was a bad car, i love honda, (well, i drive the tl) but still it's honda.
i really want the s2k, but i notice my girl friends civic having similar problems as the s2k sometimes does. i mean her car is so unreliable, her stupid gas lights sometimes lights up when her cas is full, then it goes on/off and does all this crazy stuff. her windows go down slower than if my grandma were to manually put em down. and in all, i guess it's what i'd expect from a civic.
i just don't wanna get an s2k (though it will be 02' and yes, probably less problomatic than the 00' and 01') and experience problems with it. i'd espicially hate for honda to not wanna treat me with some respect thinking i'm some stupid kid with daddy's car or something

i want you guys to really keep in mind i'm not KNOCKIN' the honda at all... I LOVE THAT FREAKIN' CAR and one want REALLY BADLY, but i'd hate for it to have problems with the tranny and clutch.
maybe it's also cause some people just have too extreme of mods and aren't too great of drivers.
i guess i'm just trying to convice myself this is the best car!
definitely best looking, haven't ridden in one yet, can't comment on performance.

I think that you hear about problems like "rattles", "creeks", "lights", ect. for a few reasons.

1) Most of us owners (especially) the ones who post here are enthusiasts. So, we pay more attention to things like that than most people.
2) This is a purpose built sports car. It has very little insulation and a very stiff susspension. You can hear the differential turning, the suspension moving, ect.
3) We drive them hard and are flushing out the strengths and weaknesses. I have a fairly new 2001 and it seems to be better put together than the 2000 model I had.

I think this all a part of the experience of the car. When I don't want to hear it...I turn up the stereo.

If you are expecting Honda cars to be better than many other brands, I think you succumed to what I call "Honda Hype." This is a carefully cultivated brand image that only time is cracking. Didn't I recently read that Honda isn't even in the current JD Powers top ten for customer service? It's always been hype. Gotta be impressed...
