i guess people also always put bad things as opposed to the posotive ones.
maybe some people find
"my car's running great, and been great thus far," just too boring of a post.
but i think we need more of them!!

This website serves it's purpose as a major central point in information exchange for the s2k. Any question anyone may have about anything as small as it may seem, they ask it and discuss it. It is understood that Honda makes 200,000 mile cars and that the S2000 is a great sports car. I haven't seen it anywhere that anyone has said anything to the extent that "My S2k sucks, I think Honda did a horrible job with it!"

You ask is it a good or bad car?
I am pretty sure you would see posts about it being a bad car if it was. You would probably see stories about people trading theirs in b/c of dissatisfaction or too many problems, etc.

I totally agree. However, I just assume it is so...because alomost every S2000 driver I pass on the street I gives a wave, a nod and a big .

jschmidt :
Honda has always been at the bottom of JD Powers' list for customer service- they have never tried to have good service, they have never had to- the cars sold themselves and were generally very reliable. They always rank high in customer satisfaction, though.

TommyAmrani:
It certainly sounded like you were knocking the car. I also wasn't calling the S2k "any other Honda" I was simply comparing it- "any other Honda" will have more problems than the S2k.

Ride in one before you get your heart set on one. It's got the stiffest suspension of any stock car I've ridden in as well as the stiffest unit body. There's NO room for anything in the interior and the trunk isn't terribly large. It requires a real afficianado to make a good daily driver, but is a terrific weekend/fun car.

If you're worried about problems, don't buy a car at all. They are notoriously unreliable

nooooo
not knockin' it at all... i love that freakin car so much and you did make a good point about cars not being "notoriously unreliable"
i heard rave reviews about the s2k and i just hate hearing bad stuff about it. or stuff that atleast makes me worry and stuff i hope won't happen to me i guess. (i'm referring to the major things of course)
about the cabin and trunk not being too spacious...
well, i'm 19, and i mainly drive around with my g/f.
getting a two seater will be the greatest thing that has happened to me because it will elminate me from much driving
EVERYTIME i go out with my friends i'm forced to drive cause i have "the phat car" and it's sooooo annoying. good thing i got it lowered a while back, now i use the excuse of, "sorry guys, the car'll rub if i put people in the back"
so basically i'm looking for a small car.
oh and the trunk...
only thing that's goin' in there is the spare tire... perhaps my cd case when parked with the top down

One reason, to answer your original question, is people come here for help. There are hundreds of folks who visit this site to surf, and never post........until there is a problem. I can't tell you how many times I answer questions from people with 1-5 posts. This board is to disseminate knowledge on a fairly rare car. Statistically it appears to be very reliable or Honda would stop making it.

Tommy Amrani, bottom line is ... It's not surprising to find minor defects or service warranty issues that needs to be addressed by a production model of any car manufacturer. On an individual basis, sometimes it's how one takes care of their car and at times really dealing with luck. I believe your opinions do not justify why the S2000 was built to be such a great Honda car any day. As for poor dealership services, I'm sure there is at least a few who will do things the right way and professionally. No doubt, there are positive feedbacks on some dealerships as well.

I still think Tommy's disappointment comes from hype vs. reality. Honda's are built average to better than average. They've never actually lived up to their hype. Honda has relied on "courtesy repairs" and secrecy to convice people that each problem is unusual and individual. This strategy has worked well for decades. This is, of course, why a consumer can't buy service bulletin information about Hondas from AllData.

Now that we can all get together and compare, this old style "quality" marketing doesn't work so well. Honda is slow to catch on. It also doesn't work well with an enthusiast (rather than commodity consumer) market base. Sure, we compare problems but there are plenty of unhappy customers here too. Occasionally, they are so unhappy that we assassinate them.

I'm not an unhappy customer. I love my car. But I'm not fooled for a second into thinking that "Honda makes amazing cars"...

Wanted to chime in on this.

Only time will tell on overall quality but I agree with the post on most Hondas (Accords/Civics) historically being trouble free. My impression with the dealer was exactly this. They've been selling trouble free cars for so long that they are treating our cars (at least mine) like it's an Accord as far as my questions go. Hell, they even suggested rotating the tires for better wear.

I drove a 90 civic LX for 9 years and 120k miles-no problems, a 99 civic SI for two years-no problems, the S2000 for 2 months and no problems other than my own paranoia. There are other similar stories in my family-two five year old Accords-no problems.

This is a performance vehicle and needs to be treated differently by the consumer as well as the dealer. We're doing our part, but at least my experience is that the dealer can't be bothered.

Anyone have >100k miles yet?

Using a different dealer for service-it pays to look around.
