Having a lot of service bulletins is not neccessarily an indicator of the number of errors per car. And BTW, Honda keeps the service bulletins a secret at AllData! Didn't you read the message? Or did you just look at the titles?
Whatever. You ask a ridiculous question and I try to answer it. Keep moving the target, I'll eventually get too tired to continue to try and hit it.

My personal experience HAS BEEN that no matter how long I wait, no matter how many people I talk to, Honda continues to show me that they make more reliable cars than anyone else. Despite what you might think, I DO talk to friends about their repair histories, I DO research what info is available publicly, and I DO look at competitors (both foreign and domestic) when I shop for a new or used vehicle. I test drove a Firebird when I went looking for the '99 Prelude I had before the S2000- it was the biggest piece I've driven in a LONG time. I considered building a AC Cobra replica instead of the S2k; at least I would know it was built well. If power were my only criteria, the S2k wouldn't be in my garage now.

Tommy
I've had my car since Feb 2000. No problems. The transmission has gotten smoother over time. My clutch whines when decelerating from third but it doesn't bother me. In fact, I kind of like it. I use Plexsus on the plastic window and it is still clear as the day I bought it.

Just peruse all the other boards and compare the rants and problems there with the ones here. On average, the S2000 is better than most other performance autos.

The pleasure I derive from driving the S2K completely eliminates all the nervous concern that's generated when I read this board.

I've had not a problem with mine either. It's worth keeping in mind that you will get people posting complaints more than you will get people posting and saying "hey .. my car has 30,000K on it and not a problem". ... if you know what I mean. It's human nature

Hard to say. I own a 2001 and have absolutely no problems except having to get new tires all the time. hehe

I've owned a 1996 Civic EX (sold when I bought the S with 66,000 absolutely trouble free miles), 1995 Honda CBR600F sport bike (10,000 very hard miles an no problems) and now my S.

My fiance' has owned two G3 Integras. The first one met a tragic end in a horrendous accident that she came out of with only minor bruises ( a testament to the strenght of that design I feel). The second one had 25,000 trouble free miles before it was traded in on her CRV. She now drives a 2001 CRV that we bought in February and has been absolutely perfect for the nearly 8,000 miles we've put on it since that time.

My Dad and step Mom had a 2000 TL that they abused the crap out of by putting on 45,000 miles. Never a problem.

My Mom and Step Dad have had a G2 Integra LS, G2 Integra GS-R, and a Legend Coupe LS 6 speed. Each car had between 60,000 - 110,000 miles on them. The GS-R had a problem with a fuel injector when the car was brand new. Maybe it was due to the fact that it was the first year for the then new VTEC technology in a mass produced car and the first year that hte GS-R was available in the states. Maybe it was because my folks decided to buy the car in that funky Aztec Green Pearl . Either way, that was the only problem with the cars. Nothing else, nada.

I've had my S since march of this year and have a little over 6,000 miles on her. I have had a few problems (including the failed drivers side window, and a completely fried clutch). However, I honestly look at these issues as being due to the new design and the low volume, single purpose nature of this car.

It is my experience that Honda is more than an above average car company. They build phenomenal cars. Feel free to disagree but you're wrong.

My step dad's company used to provide him with a Cadillac of his choice as part of his employment. Essentially, they rented him a new car every month from Hertz. More often than not, he got a new car every month. He had this gig for nearly two years in the mid to late 90's. These cars are supposed to be the pinnacle of GM's engineering, design and technology. Simply put, they were unmitigated pieces of crap. He had all kinds of problems. Some major (blown tranny's) some minor (window switches installed upside down). We used to laugh our butts off at the fact that this company actually won the Malcom Baldridge quality award in the early 90's. What a joke.

Other evidence??? I know three people with late model Jeep Grand Cherokees that have had them bought back by Jeep or Daimler/Chrysler because they were such pieces of junk.

Still more? My best buddy made the mistake of buying his wife a 1999 Mustang GT convertible. It's what she wanted, he said. So far, they haven't had any major issues (only broken fuel gauges and a tranny that refused to shift out of third). The car only has about 20,000 miles on it and it is literally falling apart. It flexes, creaks, moans and basically rattles down the highway.

More you say? Another buddy of mine's father thought he'd be nice and surprise his wife with a new 1999 Buick Le Sabre (I think that's the model. Big ugly 4 door with a curvy body and terrible interior). The A Arm of the suspension simply fell off while exiting the 405 freewya at Valley View one night.

I could go on and on, but it's clear that I will not change my mind. As a proud American, I do not feel that there are any well built American cars. It's sad. I think we're getting better but you know what, so are the Japanese and Europeans.

Honda and Toyota are on the exact opposite end of the scale, IMO. The build a wide variety of trucks and cars that are largely very reliable. Sure, you can find one or two examples of problems but in my personal experience I can point to five to ten problems with domestic iron by comparison.

Hey Tommy,

I would go for it. Ive had my s2k since December and have had no problems. As for service, if you cant find a good dealer to take it to in your area, give Classic Honda here in Orlando a try. They have treated me (and other s2k owners) like royalty. Some people bring their cars from out of state to ONLY Classic. Billy Walker is the service manager I request. If you have any doubts ask Sondra s2k, she introduced me to them. They have 4 or 5 s2k trained mechanics that specialize with our car.
Get the extended warrenty and have a blast.

The arguments in this thread are, bluntly, stupid. I personally love my S2K, and had no problems with it, except my nice little wreck. So I have yet to see how it'll put up with time now.

But back to my original point. This argument will get no where. Why? Because everyone has different experiences with cares. Usually to the opposite extremes. One good analogy is Honda and Sony. Having worked at Circuit City selling TV's, I have decent experience with peoples opinions of TV's. Its the exact same as most import manufacturers. Most people will swear by their Honda or Toyota or other import. Not all, but the majority. Most people I sold TV's too would swear by Sony. Say they had three or four for periods of 10-15 years and not a problem. Then every once in a person would come in and comment about how they had a few TV's that lasted 2 days after the warranty expired then the tube went out. Whether I tried to tell them most of my customers had good experiences or not, they wouldn't even consider them. Some people I would try to steer away from buying a Sony and they wouldn't even hear me out after I gave them a 5 minute spiel (sp?) on why they should buy something else.

Its not a matter of which cars are higher quality. It matters with what kind of experience you personally have had. I don't think you can go wrong with an S2k. My parents have never ahd anything but domestics, except for an old diesel mercedes. They have had no major issues with the domestics, but had much trouble with the mercedes. Me, I had a '92 Toyota pickup, no problems, and it had 140,000 miles on it. And now I have an s2k, and I don't have feelings against either imports or domestics.

all of you said many important things (other than those of you whom argued amongst yourselves lol)
my family owned both japanese cars and of course american ones. (very few germans)
no doubt that when you have something for the first time, the impression it leaves is VERY important cause it decides weather or not you'll be back for MORE. my father had an audi 100 when those pieces were new, and he had NOTHING but problems with it. of course he'll NEVER purchase an audi ever again.
all the hondas and acuras we've ever had were absolutely amazing. even the toyotas. all pushed 100k and over with out any problems.
my current TL (knock on wood) is a 99 with 45k on it and it brings me nothing but joy. so of course honda's left a very big SMILE on my face when it comes to trusting thier enginering.
all the american cars my parents had (well, we basically thanked god every time we made it home w/out a problem... too bad we never got to thank him MUCH. americans want to stay in the japanese competition, so they produce big fancy cars, with VERY cheap materials.) they know not many would rather spend 50grand on an american when they can go german or japanese.

i guess after reading all these replys, i realized that out of so many cars, some don't come PERFECT.
my g/f's dad had a 99 E320 and mercedes took it back and gave him an 00' cause the 99' had WAY too many problems. so i guess EVEN to the germans it happens.
even if the s2000 was a piece of junk, i'd still get it, i'm at a point where i'm obbssessed with that darn thing!!!!!!
