I wouldn't exactly classify my AP2 engine as peaky. It has decent torque starting at a relatively low RPM, even if its peak torque is not that much higher than the AP2. It's not nearly as peaky as my Integra, the AP1, and the Celica (Elise also).

I like downshifting to get the extra toque when I need to. But it's nice to know that you don't NEED to. I do a lot of passing in 4th, 5th, and yes, even 6th on the roads. In autocross, I don't always need to shift to 1st when I notice my AP1 counterparts need to out of a slower corner (even if I top out a little faster and rarely need to shift to 3rd).
