The downside of a test pipe

The power gains are small because Honda uses a high-flow, metal honeycomb catalyzer instead of the conventional, cheaper, ceramic catalyzer. As far as smell, I can smell a car without a catalytic converter from a good ways off. It is a good way to make a nice car seem cheap.
no one can tell your car is the source of the smell

No power gain?? What are you talking about? Not a big gain but definitely the best bang for buck mod for this car in power. Easy 6whp or so with just a test pipe.
I had a testpipe and its a great mod for the money. I got 208 whp with the testpipe and a drop-in filter being my only mods. That being said though the smell and soot on my rear bumper got old
6 hp I do not think is an exageration. You should not really feel 6 hp. 5-6 hp seems to be what most people get going to a test pipe. If it was only 1 hp I do not think nearly as many people would get one. Look up some dynos and see for yourself.

In some states you can get a steep ticket for taking out your cat. It's just not worth it to me.

"i bought it like this"
So you can't say you bought it like that... unless the cop is a complete idiot. You could say that it passed emissions but when he smells it, he is unlikely to believe you. That why you always turn off your car immediately when you get pulled over and have a test pipe on there and hope for a big gust of wind from behind.
