I guess no body here is from the Atlanta area. Welcome to the city that's ranked #1 for drivers merging with no signals. Litterally I have driven through Atlanta probably 6 times in the last 6 months (luckily I live 1.5 hours east) and I remember seeing someone use a blinker two, that's right TWO times!!!!!! Did I mention that on EACH occasion I was nearly hit five or six times!!!!! I wish there was a way to avoid Atlanta, but I85 goes through it, I75 goes through it, and I20 goes through it (those are all the Interstates in Georgia). So if anyone is passing through Georgia YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED!!!!

Edit: I forgot I95 which goes along the coast, so if you're driving up or down the coast you're good. All you have to worry about is the bed-bugs that have infested (from what I understand to be) every hotel along that interstate.

Don't knock drivers and driving in the US, anyone who has driven in any foreign country should be able to agree that driving here is probably as safe as it gets. I've never been on the Autobahn and have heard that all drivers understand and respect the rule "slower traffic keep right". I wouldn't accept that German drivers are any better than their european counterparts on their standard highways and byways. If safety is your primary concern, count your blessings.

The S is a small, low car and easy to miss in the mirrors of a SUV.

Never stay in their blind spot any longer than you have to. Speed up or slow down so even if they come over they won’t hit you.

I think this goes for anything you are driving, don’t cruise where you cannot be seen or where you will be hit if they come over. If it happens all the time it could be you are staying in people's blind spot.

I do ride one, and people change lanes into me more in my bright blue s2k than on my bright green bike. The nonexistant exhaust tone on the s2k may have something to do with it, compared to my bikes exhaust which is definitely noticeable. Although today some woman talking on her phone decided I wasn't important enough to continue living and switched lanes right into me, if I wasn't already riding on the right side of the lane I would have been hit. We were doing 30mph, even hitting the clutch and revving to 12k didn't catch her attention. Passing her and proceeding to give her the bird for the next mile did though, stupid broad.

Attach a gattling gun to your trunk. Problem solved. Cheaper than a fender bender!

I have the same problem down here...
Solution:
Horn
Drive with lights on
HKS 75mm single

I cant count how many times ive had to floor the brakes to avoid some douchebag that wasnt paying attention. Worst one was my senior year prom, id had the car MAYBE 2 months. K&N FIPK was the only mod. Big as truck felt he needed to come into my lane, so i blared the horn, he brake checked me hard. i floored it past him and then he guns it and rides maybe a foot off my bumper doing 85 or more down the interstate. So my date is flipping out, and i punched it. saw about 140 before the guys lights were far enough off and i got off at the next exit. Scared the shit out of me. Other than that, just the general group of dumbasses around columbia that cant drive. i wish it was legal to go Twisted Metal on some of those people. especialy SUV's and Hummers. jesus christ.

I have never had any merging problems in the S2000... skunk2 dual exhaust + K&N. You hear me before you see me, I guess that's a testament to loudness!

Great advice. I drive a Honda Element as my winter car. I had a few near accidents where I Almost ran a few people off the road the first month or so I had it. It's simply that I'd check the mirror and do a quick glance over the side and nothing would be there. Turns out I could barely see the top of anything as tall as a civic in my passenger side blind spot area. After that I ended up getting a convex mirror for that side.

In the S2000 I tend to drive defensively and speed up or slow down to purposely stay out of blind spots as well. It has worked pretty well so far.

I hear ya! I am from Columbia, lived there for 18 years, drivers in that area are the worst in the state (next to maybe Myrtle Beach?). Tailgaters, side swipers, etc. The worst is how people in Columbia (or Irmo I should say) continue through red lights even after the lights turn green for the other direction.
