You reminded me of someone's post about constant vtec driving. I can't dig up the post right now, but his engine died at 40K. His issue was that he'd stay above 6,000 at all costs. It ended up costing him his engine. Now I'm not saying that you're doing this, it's just a warning.
Even then, there were a lot of well respected s2ki members (Stratocoster and a few others) chiming in for that thread saying they didn't believe that would toast a well maintained motor. I think that guy probably had oil issues or something else going on.

That being said, I wouldn't recommend driving in it on long highway trips for no good reason other than to be driving in VTEC, but on spirited drives I think you'll be fine.

Yea i read that post about the dude that drove in Vtec. There was alot of stuff not mentioned, he drove casually in vtec nearly everyday he had his car, thats pretty insane if you ask me. However the driving your speaking of is totally fine, its what the car was built for, plus what do you think people are doing when tracking their car? they pretty much make it their mission to stay in vtec, so when all is said and done, dont worry about a thing, just check fluids and alittle preventive maintience never hurt anyone.

I keep seeing people talk about staying in VTEC...
Its not VTEC that destorys the motor.. its the constant use of high RPMS
think about that stayin above 6000 rpms for a long time compared to 3000 rpms...

Thats twice as much on the motor...

He wasnt referring to you. A while back a guy made a thread wondering why his engine blew, he said since he found out the engine ran best at above 6k he drove the car for years on the highway cruising at about 6-7k. And even under those circumstances his engine took years to blow.

Think of all the videos you see s2000's racing in or all the autocrossers here, they stay in vtec anywhere from 5 to 30 minutes. Of course with any engine the harder you push it the lower the life, but its still a honda. Modifry had his s2000 supercharged for 100,000 miles, and im sure he vtec'd on a daily basis

Stealth is spot on, and that's true of any motor or mechanical device. A well maintained F20/F22 will handle it's share of high RPM better than most engines due to pretty robust internals.

it is fine to drive in vtec, if it wasnt meant to be used, then it wouldnt be there. Take it easy and drive safe.
