I wouldn't do it everywhere I go for gas reasons, but it's fine. Trust me.

You reminded me of someone's post about constant vtec driving. I can't dig up the post right now, but his engine died at 40K. His issue was that he'd stay above 6,000 at all costs. It ended up costing him his engine. Now I'm not saying that you're doing this, it's just a warning.
Some claimed he drove VTEC like you and I might use cruise control. His story is larger than can be recollected with mere words...the story of a ethereal driver possessing a resolve and courage unlike what we see in these modern times.

His legacy is now legend, but all legends have some foundation in truth.

Sometimes, if you mess with the Bull, you get the Horns.

Was it the VTEC Bull? Was it some other non-related oil starvation issue? It's a quandary indeed.

His story has inspired the courage of many to ask more from VTEC, yet influenced an entire movement related to VTEC conservation.

Perhaps sometimes, less is more? Do you have the courage? Can you test the legend?

If so, good luck with it and make sure to give us an update.

Peace!

Yea i read that post about the dude that drove in Vtec. There was alot of stuff not mentioned, he drove casually in vtec nearly everyday he had his car, thats pretty insane if you ask me. However the driving your speaking of is totally fine, its what the car was built for, plus what do you think people are doing when tracking their car? they pretty much make it their mission to stay in vtec, so when all is said and done, dont worry about a thing, just check fluids and alittle preventive maintience never hurt anyone.
it was about 50k when it went, and he had some oil issues. if the oil level were perfect he'd probably still be beating the snot out of it. but if you can do ~50k almost exclusively in VTEC, why not stay on the high cam for 5k of your 150k miles?

you bought a sports car, use it. otherwise, sell it and buy a camry.

I wonder what that guy's gas mileage was like. Seems very wasteful to drive around at 7k RPM all day for no reason. Burns gas, uses oil, wear and tear on the internals of the motor. Hopefully nobody ends up buying a used S that's been treated like that...

Its not VTEC that destorys the motor.. its the constant use of high RPMS
think about that stayin above 6000 rpms for a long time compared to 3000 rpms...

Thats twice as much on the motor...
So wouldn't engine braking (albeit a lot of engine braking) do basically the same thing? Assuming it was done a lot of the time as opposed to using the brake pedal. I mean isn't that putting a lot of unnecessary load on the engine?

engine braking would be worse as it stresses the tranny/clutch/etc every time you pull the revs up

I dont literally stay in VTEC but I VTEC all day long.
My S never seen a day without VTEC, lOtsss of VTEC, and its my DD.
Gas mileage is good and no oil issues. Properly maintained.

I guess VTEC is kinda like my NICOTINE alternative.

I do several HPDE a year and I stay in VTEC for the entire session. About 20-25 minutes. its fine, just change your oil and keep it topped off.
