One poiunt many forget:
THE SI IS $21K
THE S2K IS $35K
big difference
For $21k, the SI si a gread dd commuting car.
once again, FOR $21K......... a detail many here forget when they compare the SI vs. the S2k
Of course for $15k more I expect the S2k to perform WAyyyyy better than the SI. But it's comparing apples and oranges
The bottom line is that for a dd commuting type of car and for the price the SI is a great car. And the one saying the Mazda 3 or the Evo are better they forget that YOU CAN'T GET THE SPEED 3 OR THE EVO FOR $21K. They cost much more than the SI. A small detail many forget

In my situation my friend bought an 07 Si for about the same (if not more) than I paid for my 06 S2000. We both bought them used this year so it is very valid in my opinion to compare the two. The Si is a good car but I can think of plenty of alternatives that I'd go with first (used of course). I just do not care for FWD at all.

I own both cars and love both for different reasons. The SI isn't as raw compared to the s2000. It's a much smoother and quieter ride. It's great for DD is poor weather conditions or driving around friends and family (I have a 4d). The s2000 is great for obvious reasons that I don't need to explain.
You can't really compare these cars. They were made for different audiences and both are excellent cars in their own respect. You can't really find a car in the SI price range that can match the performance and quality.

I also have a Si that the wife uses as her DD.

I am of Vintage age and I own a 2002 S2000 for the fun of it and a 2006 Civic Si for my daily driver. If anyone cares to label me immature because I own an Si so be it. I probably have more years of driving experience than the people who would label me immature have all together.
The Si is a more forgiving car than the S2000. The S2000 has a considerably better transmission than the Si, but it requires much more skill to drive properly. The S2000's transmission (and steering and handling) is much more sensitive but at the same time more responsive. Not only do I feel this way, but my 16 year old son, who I'm teaching to drive on both cars feels the same way. The bottom line is that the S2000 is more precise but the Si is more forgiving. All of that said, there is no quesiton that the S2000's transmission is the best that I've ever driven, and the Si's is a close second.
Getting back to the Si, it is the perfect daily driver for someone like me who has 40 years of driving experience and grew up driving sports cars. It is a fun car to drive, yet at the same time has four seats and still isn't boring. It has enough power, steering precision and handling to satisfy me knowing that it's a daily driver.
I love my Si and my S2000.

The Civic Si with nav lists for about $25K, while a 2011 335i, similarly equipped to my current one would go for about $52K. Despite the aggressive leasing deals, BMW is just economically off the wall. As long as the Si has a decent fun factor, I think I can live with it and enjoy it. But what will I do with that extra $27K?

This is true, but I've never bought new and likely never will. The depreciation hit far outweighs the possible maintenance costs incurred from not having the warranty and as long as you buy one that isn't ragged out you're usually fine in that respect.

Compare used cars is useless. At least I don't find it useful, because you don't know the condition of a used car. You could get an 06 S2k in great condition and a badly overused 06 SI. Would that be a fair comparison between such two cars?
This is why when I compare cars, I only compare them as brand new, this way we know that both cars comparison start at the same point, meaning "NEW, AND NEVER USED BY ANYONE".
So when I read ppl saying the SI is slow, or it is crappy, especially when it's compared to the S2k, I feel they don't make a fair comparison.
The S2k is a different category, a different kind of car compared to the SI. The SI is the closest thing you can get in experiencing the S2k, but that's as far as it can go in comparison.
Comparing a $35k (S2k) to a $21k (SI) is not a fair comparison by a long shot.
For that extra cash the S2k BETTER outperform the SI in every category.
But for dd and commuting I'd not trade the SI for anything. I find the S2k just as toy, a marvelous piece of engineering, but it is NOT a practical dd type of car.
A couple of weeks ago I was driving to Connecticut, and it was pouring hard. Which car do you believe is better in such conditions? The S2k or the SI?
BUT THE SI, of course.......
But which one would you rather track? The S2k of course
Two different types of cars. Comparison is totally unfair in my opinion, and ppl just can't differentiate between the two. They just compare apples and oranges expecting the apple to be an orange. That's unfair in my opinion
For the record, I own both, so I know both cars well
I love driving the Civic SI and the Honda FIT Sport, both manual. They are sooo smooth....just like any economy FWD commuter daily drivers should be.
I love driving the S2000...it's noisy, loud, bumpy and raw just like any performance RWD sports car should be.

For you to say that 'the S2000 is not a practical DD type of car' doesn't make much sense, IMO. Different strokes for different folks, I guess.

I DD my S2000. I have no problems DD'ing it. Rain or shine, it hugs the road like a champ as long as you're driving like a civilized adult.

- Be careful where you park it, you never know who can steal it
- snows heavy. Hmm..... I have RWD, wish me good luck
- My girlfrriend has a friend that wants to come along. Ooops....... it only has 2 front seats. I guess she can't come with us
- I just bought tons of stuffs..... oh noooo the trunk is too small and no back seats that fold down for extra room
Should I go on how the S2k is just NOT a practical car for dd?
