ginaprincess--first I see where you're coming from on comparing new vs. new. After all, that is the only way to compare two cars directly. However, most people DO buy cars used and then you can start comparing two that can be had at similar prices. I think the Si is a fine car, but FWD is not for me. I would never buy one.

As far as your DD argument goes: really the only things that one could argue are lack of space and RWD. I personally never liked having more than one other person in my cars prior to the S2000 and now I have a legitimate excuse not to carry more than one passenger. If I am going out with a group of friends then someone else is going to have a four-seat car, guaranteed. And if by some miracle I hang out with only people who drive two-seaters, then we simply drive two vehicles to our destination.

RWD in snow: I'd rather have this than FWD. A RWD car with proper tires and a driver who has experience in winter driving is perfectly fine. I DD'ed my LS1 Trans Am for four years on Blizzaks and the only time I ever had an issue was on an uphill stop on solid ice. I was in town so I simply backed it up to the end of the previous block, turned and took the next street that didn't have an incline. There is nothing wrong with RWD in snow. The only time an S2000 would have trouble where an Si wouldn't have trouble would be if the snow was at just the depth where it went over the clearance of the S2000 but under the clearance of the Civic.

All in all I don't see anyone trashing on the Si. I understand if you enjoy your car. It's just not for everybody. This forum is proof that plenty of people DD S2000s with no issue. I'd not have it any other way myself.

He's like that - most of the time.

I have an '00 S2000 and an '06 Si. Love them both but for different reasons/purposes. The Si is a sweet DD though not as fun to drive. It's really not an apples to apples comparison.

ok, then here a few examples

- Be careful where you park it, you never know who can steal it
- snows heavy. Hmm..... I have RWD, wish me good luck
- My girlfrriend has a friend that wants to come along. Ooops....... it only has 2 front seats. I guess she can't come with us
- I just bought tons of stuffs..... oh noooo the trunk is too small and no back seats that fold down for extra room

Should I go on how the S2k is just NOT a practical car for dd?
You mean can you go on about how the S2000 is not practical FOR YOU. I don't think you speak for everyone.

And I believe that any car built for enthusiasts (Like an SI) should be comparable especially when the OP is comparing certain things that all cars can be compared with, shifter "feel", and drive ability. He wasn't comparing speed or track times.

The S2000 was once compared with the Boxter, Z4 which were priced well above the S2000, yet the S2000 still fared better in speed, shifter feel, handling, etc....so the argument of a car costing more "should" be better isn't always valid as well.

In regards to the comments on smoothness, I find my car is kinda temperamental. Some days 95% of my shifts are awesome with rev-matched downshifts being seamless and the car just feels great. Other days I can't seem to get much of anything right but my technique is the same.

It's probably me. One of my favorite things about the s2k is how rewarding it is to drive when you get that blip downshift perfect approaching a corner or something. Takes a lot of concentration and 'feel' to get it perfect all the time. The car continues to challenge me.

Then the Z4 is crap...... which we all know that anyway, don't we

But you can't tell me that you expect a $21k car to perform as good as a $35k car. Just from the price aspect alone the $35k car better perform better or it is crap. And this goes for any car, not just the S2k or SI or whtever car you want to bring to the plate

Your comments are extremely helpful. My 2002 S2000 has Garage Queen status (46,800 miles), and will hopefully be around for a while - as will I, a rapidly aging senior citizen. I am considering the Civic Si 4 door as a daily driver replacement for a 2008 BMW 335i which is going off lease in a few months. The Bimmer is nice, but obscenely overpriced.
The Civic Si with nav lists for about $25K, while a 2011 335i, similarly equipped to my current one would go for about $52K. Despite the aggressive leasing deals, BMW is just economically off the wall. As long as the Si has a decent fun factor, I think I can live with it and enjoy it. But what will I do with that extra $27K?
I am facing somewhat of the same dilemna. I love my Si but this coming June I intend to give it to my son Adam for his first car. He gets his license in June and the Si is the perfect car for him. It will have 72,000 miles and he knows how to drive it and likes it a lot.

My dilemna is this, the only three cars that interest me for a daily driver are the BMW 335 (I'd love to buy the 335D), the Honda CR-Z and the Honda Si.

I'm up in the air about the CR-Z. I've been in one but haven't driven it yet. Still it appeals to me in that its small, lightweight and underpowered, all of the things that I like best in a car. The drawback, of course, is that it's only a two seater and I really need a 4 seater for my daily driver. If I can work my way past that issue, I might buy the CR-Z.

I have the same issues with the BMW that you have. It's quite a car (a bit heavier than I usually like) and everyone who has one likes it, but the price is up in the stratosphere and I don't think I have to spend that much money to get a car that I'll enjoy owning. The Si is proof of that.

The Si is a car that I've enjoyed owning. My only annoyance with it is that the cabin is a bit noisier than I like. Most time it doesn't bother me, but sometimes I wish it was a little quieter. The car is bouncy, bumpy and just plain fun to drive. It's not as fine a handling car as the S2000, but for an everyday driver with 4 seats and the carrying capacity that I need, it suits my purposes. I don't get bored driving it, and I get bored very easily with boring cars. Very much like my S2000, my Si puts a smile on my face when I drive it. The only change I'll make (possibly besides the color) is that this time I might get the 4 door. Quite frankly, I love my Si.

Good luck on your choice.

I've driven a 03 civic ex MT and a Solara MT and the shifting is like butter compared to the S. Which is expected because the shifter is not directly connected to the trans.

You're kidding, right? The S has some of the smoothest shifting ever, along with incredible feel. The shifting in the Solara and Civic probably felt smooth compared to the S because A. the shifters in those cars are loose and vague, which might constitute 'smooth' to some , B. the S2000 is in need of a shifter regrease, clutch fluid change, and/or transmission fluid change or C. both of the above.

To OP: This is what usually happens when you mention other cars in a S2K forum
