Dumb Question
It flashes just cause ecu has service intervals preset in its memory. Within 500 miles of that interval it will only flash few times and then go away, after 500 mile just stays on. Check owners manual, it tells you how to reset it. Don't get confused between that light and Engine Check Light. No big deal!
its an automated process - manually checking the condition of your oil or changing your oil isnt going to keep the car from flashing the light every 4,000 miles.
just reset it (its in the manual) and either change the oil if it needs it - or not

what's more scary is taking your S to a Honda Dealership for anything including an oil change...make sure they use the Honda OEM oil (mobil?) and the PCX oil filter...go to a drive through one so you can actually watch them do it
There is a difference between the "scheduled maintenance" and a "regular oil change". Although the oil and filter are typically also changed during a scheduled maintenance, there are many other items checked and maintenance performed during a "scheduled maintenance" that are not done for an "oil change". Some people get confused and think the maintenance reminder is for an oil change only, that is not true. The intervals for scheduled maintenance and oil change are completely different, oil changes are done between scheduled maintenance intervals. If in doubt, read the owner's manual for the car. I don't want anyone ruining their car because of mis-information.
Oil change can be done by anyone. Scheduled maintenance should be done by a mechanic who knows about the car -- it is not necessary to take it to the dealer, though most of us would because we are not competant to do the work ourselves; but people knowledgeable enough can do their own scheduled maintenance. The maintenance reminder light should only be reset after performing a "scheduled maintenance" and not after an oil change.
