Dumb question about the door lock
I noticed some odd behavior with the door's locking mechanism, and I was wondering if other people's cars act this way too.
I was programming the ignition on - door lock and ignition off - door unlock on my new Alpine alarm, and noticed that when I was using it, the lock lever on the door was unlocked, and would not move to the locked position. It seemed jammed. I took the key and tried it that way and it didn't work either, the key turns about 1/2 way and any more and it would be forcing it.
I closed the door and it now appears to work fine. So if I gather correctly, the door can only be locked if it is fully closed?
Is this some sort of weird feature to keep the driver from locking the keys in the car? My Camry has a similar anti-lockout mechanism, but it just unlocks the door after you lock it with the door ajar and the keys in the ignition. The alarm installer was not in the doors, and it was a quality local shop so the install isn't really a concern.

All hondas ( that I know of) have this feature. It is the "weird" feature that you spoke of to keep driver's from locking the keys in the car. If you want to lock the driver side door when it's open all you have to do is pull the handle and flip the lock. That will lock both driver and passenger doors at the same time.
