dyno 04 s2000
its weird how that doesn't correlate to a faster 0-60 or 1/4 time or performance street time.
When I first heard about it I found out that gearing plays a major role in it and 04 has an extra shift is one reason. Any other ideas?
200 is normal for a pre04 though.

From what I gather on the site here the 04 is quicker on the street but it is because of the transmission/gearing not because of the engine. I have also read that the reason the 04 dynos a little bit more HP is because it is tooned a little bit better then the previous years. As far as I know an 03 will dyno a little bit more HP then a 00 and I think this is because every year Honda tunes the ECU or somthing a little bit better.
While it is true that the '04 does dyno 10-15 hp higher the reason the 0-60 is nearly a half second slower is because of the gearing. Second gear is only good for 58 mph, not 64 mph as in the pre-'04 models. An extra shift costs about 0.4 seconds on the 0-60 time. Depending on the track the new gear ratios can help or hurt but IMO only having 2000 rpm to work with in V-TEC is not quite as much fun, still like my '02.
lol no its not quicker on the street they are the same performance that was my point, but with all that extra power on the dyno why isn't quicker on the street 0-60 or 1/4th?
Its a lil faster on the track for sure but why not street? All I have come up so far is gearing, that one extra shift costs you some time?

I guess they did this so that you stay in (or near) VTEC when you shift? (with the original gearing and an 8K redline, you'd be out of VTEC when shifting).
But if VTEC weren't a factor, I think you'd actually want the opposite to produce similar results as the '03. As you add torque to the engine and reduce the redline, you want to have taller gearing so that the shift points remain at reasonable speeds.

I have heard stories of people doing 2nd gear pulls and then switching drivers (so you can't say one driver is better then the other) and the 04 wins everytime. Remember these are stories and I have not seen this so I am not 100% sure these are true. If an 03 with gears is quicker then an 03 without gears then how is an 04 slower on the street then the 03? I don't mean to start a war. I am just curious.
