Make an offer and leave it with him.
I've used ebay a few times and I completely agree with NalVle. The system is SUPPOSED to be an auction. I really tire of these sellers who abuse the system. Hell, I bought something not long ago that was completely misadvertised (it was a VERY good deal). Fortunately for me, the seller stood by what he advertised. If a seller wants a minimum price then USE THE RESERVE.
If people bid correctly rather than sniping at the last second then ebay would work quite well. It shouldn't be only for the buyers.
There is a clever auction site in Aus that stays open for a further 10 minutes if it gets a last minute bid. It does this repeatedly so the auction stops when people stop bidding. Makes much more sense than ebay's system.

"ebay bastards"???????????????????????????????
I thought this thread would be about you being ripped off.
You offered a price and the seller didn't get any prices to his liking so he closed the auction with no sale. He paid a price for this.
You didn't get ripped off. You just got frustrated that you failed to complete a sale at a super price.
It happens all the times that a seller and a buyer can't agree on a price.
Am I missing something? Did it cost you anything to bid on an item and then the seller decided to withdraw the item before he had to "give away" his item.
I agree that it would have been better if he posted it with a reserve. That doesn't make him an "ebay basdard." Heavens knows there are plenty of ebay bastards. I've been stung only once (with no great loss ultimately) but I've been happy in about 25 auctions.

There's another scenario to consider. It's possible that a legit buyer offered the seller enough money to end the auction early.
Not really nice - but it happens.
And I agree that there is no turbo kit I'd want on my car that only costs $2,000
