Default ECU Reset gave me .4 second increase in performance and fixed AC

I did 3 runs w/out the ECU reset-- w/gtech... reset the ECU and did the EXACT same run 3 times... (accidently WITH the AC ON!). I got .4 seconds faster 0-60 and .3seconds faster in the 1/4mile.
(I was using my GTechpro)

All I did was pull the ECU plug... then pull the 7.5amp fuse (2nd down from the right most under the drivers knee).

Not only did my performance increase dramatically, but 2nd gear had noticbly more torque. Additional benifit: I had an AC "issue" where when I would come to a stop, it would almost die (rpms would drop to 600rpm'ish... you could feel the engine complain). This also, is gone! I'm wayyy pleased. Don't know why this worked, etc... but it did.

Amartin,

I really think that you're just getting better with your launches and thats what helping your times. Resetting the ECU shouldn't give you any more torque in 2nd gear either. I think you've been GTECHing too much lately.

I'de agree EXCEPT-- I did 3 runs before and 3 runs after... and it was consistantly faster after the first 3 runs. Tires were warmer? I got better?? Maybe.. dunno.

DEFINATELY fixed my AC issue, so something happened.

I too have noticed that an ECU reset in the summer months helps performance. Even my friend noticed in my Prelude when I did a valve adjust and an ecu rest (valves were in spec - none were adjusted) as well. The ECU has a base timing adjustment, and I think (speculation) that the code will set timing retard based on amount of times detonation occurs. So what happens is that in the summer, detonation occurs often, so the ecu retards timing more and then sets the default to more retarded timing. After an ECU reset, the timing is set to more advanced, so more power. So what you want to do is to rest your ECU halfway through summer and around October (when it starts to get cold) to maximize power.

Can someone post detailed instructions on how to do this so that people who do want to give it a try can follow along and get it done? Thanks.

Check the FAQ. There is one on resetting ECU.

Interesting that you got performance gains from resetting the ECU. I know that Ultimate Lurker did this and his car was running funny for a little while, as the ECU had to relearn everything. He told me that his car would idle funny and almost stalled. His VYEC response was also strange.
