Elimination Of Power Steering???
Just curious as to what you people thought...
I posted this idea on the proposal for the S2000 Type R. The Zanardi edition of the NSX took this approach, and it seems to make the steering crisper at high speeds.
Do you think it would be too rugged for everyday driving? My '89 Accord lost its power steering a few times, and it's a ----- driving it around at slow speeds...namely parking lots and 3 point turns.
Anyway, what do you people think?

Power steering in this car is alread done by an electric motor, it is a very light weight assembly and draws very little power from the motor. At speed it is not assisting at all, it has variable assist. In my opinion there is nothing to be gained by removing it, accept maybe stronger arms.

That's about right. The S2000 power steering uses stored energy from the battery, not parasitic energy from the engine. You could remove it but all you'd save is a little weight. You wouldn't make any more power since the alternator turns full time anyway.
