Default remove power steering?

I've heard autrocrossers whine about the power steering in most modern cars, so I'm wondering if it's worthwhile to remove the power steering in the S. It's a small, light car, do we really need it? What would be involved? Can I test it before I commit?

There's virtually no benefit from removing the power steering from an S2000 except for a minor weight savings. It's an electronic power steering system and not a belt/pulley system (that drags the crank pulley resulting in a small power output loss). I currently have no power steering due to a defective EPS unit in my 00' and it's a pain in the ass to steer when at a standstill (parking situations), but otherwise it's manageable.

If you want to try it, remove the EPS fusebox fuses and see how you like it, then when you're done testing put it back and it should reset itself/ sort itself out. If not.. my bad

I think that most people remove the power steering more for the extra feedback than for the minor power loss. I am not positive, bit I believe that to get the improved feel that you are looking for, you are going to have to replace the EPS with a regular un-powered rack.

Luder, thanks, I think you're right. I'll mull it over some more.

I've had my power steering go out. You definitely feel more feedback in the corners but making tight turns takes some muscle.

Just unplug it when you want to.
