After digging around their site again I think I have found my problem. Here is a pic of the plate that they have on their site. It comes as part of thier "CAI" kit with the grills.




And here is a pic of the one that I got.



Notice how different they are. I'm not sure if the one I got is just an older model or what but I know that the one listed on their site addresses the things I have been talking about and looks like it would actually work. It appears to be more true to the correct shape and has grooves to allow the bolts for the molding piece to actually go back in with the plate installed. The one I have has one very small hole that is about half the size of the hole that would be needed for the molding bolts and is even off center. I have no idea what that hole is for and it seems useless. I pm'd axcilla Friday asking for help installing this so maybe once he sees this one he will be a pal and swap me for one that works

 

I see now. Hopefully, axilla will take care of you. I've talked to the man on the phone and he seems like he is very accommodating.
