You guys are amazing, such an active, chatty bunch. Wish I'd visited here sooner.
Barry, or anybody else compiling lists, my VIN# is:
JHMAP1147YT008953. The car anyway, don't know what the hell is on the new block.
Don't know what your experiences were at the time of the failure but my car at Hendrick Honda which is a very big shop and most of the techs. were standing around, craning their necks to see the DOHC VTEC engine with the valve cover off.All I spoke to, including the service mgr., said they'd never seen one open before. It was a very surreal experience, somewhere between a science experiment and an autopsy. I do know that AHM ordered my block back to R&D and it was gone quite rapidly. The car has been running fine since then tho I've often wondered whether it was as tight as when originally built at the factory. Who knows?

Everything should be as good as new, or actually better, since you had a problem. The dealer would have removed the engine and swapped out the short block, which was factory built, but still use the original heads, manifold, fuel injection system, etc. Run her to the max (after a new break in, of course)!

Lisa, I would still have concerns with a short block. So much depends on the technician who builds the engine. Cam timing has to be set, timing belt tension, all components have to be properly torqued etc. I would never feel as comfortable with a short block replacement as I would be with a new engine. All of our members who had short bloks replaced should seek some type of extended engine warranty from Honda.
