I thought Honda claimed they have never had not even one single VTEC system broken on an S2000
He had a J's racing ECU, that has to be a determining factor.

I'm saddened to see your problems. That's the catastrophic results when a retainer fails. I recommend the titanium retainers for this reason. The factory retainers tend to give out. I've seen it several times. Good luck, the new engine should be a horsepower monster.
After this engine failure I highly recommend an upgrade to those items you mentioned (retainers/springs)...

Actually the J's ECU is a factor in which my rpms limit is set to 9200rpms but also in some other cases (OEM/stock rev limit) the same incident occured...

So it is a retainer/spring thingy (retainer to be more specific).

It's always sad when bad things happen to get engines.

Good luck with the new engine

Man ... sorry to see your engine going away. It doesn't really sound like the engine gave up due to excessive abuse or modifications. It seems to just point out that the retainers/valve springs are a little weak for prolonged high-revs.

Anyway, best of luck to you. Keep us posted about your J's engine! If I were you, I would be too excited and can't fall asleep. That's one monster NA engine!
