Default Engine Reliability

How reliable is the S2k's motor? Has anyone had any problems, such as engine failures, tuning, loose/broken pieces, etc.?

BMW has tried to mimick the S2k's Hp to Liter output in their M3 motor, but seem to be having problems with reliability issues. In the next few days, BMW NA is going to be announcing a recall on all M3 motors built within this year. Besides that, the motor requires a tune-up (value adjustment) every 12,000-15,000 miles. Furthermore, they've been having problems with this motor since day 1 (of it's release).

How does the S2k motor fair in terms of reliablity and maintenance? Is a high revving 4-cyl more reliable than a high revving 6-cyl? It would seem so since there's less parts to worry about.

I haven't heard of any member's engine dying out due to normal wear and tear yet. I think the F20C's a winner.

A friend of mine bought a Corvette Z06 last summer. Still has low miles, and doesn't abuse the car.

He is now on his third engine!

If he did it was probably a used model and definitely a 2001. Many people got suckered in to the good deals being offered on used 01's last year and simply inherited the problems the first owner had incurred. GM addressed and admitted that there was a problem with the LS6 they were placing in the 01's. The 01's had oil consumption problems that GM corrected with the 02 model by redesigning the piston ring seals. I have not heard anything negative about an 02 or 03 model.

Honda is not only the largest engine manufacturer in the world. it is widely accepted as the best engine manufacturer in the world as well. I would expect few problems with the F20C, just like any other Honda motor. They are simply the best.

Not to start a war or anything, but... I don't think that's a fair statement.
The old M3 already had around 100hp/L.
