Engine Sputter On Start Up
Everyone once in a while when I start the engine up (more often as time goes by), it lags starting up, like one cylinder is late to catch on. It doesn't take 2 hits of the button, but 1 long one as it slowly turns to life. Any idea? I put in the Chevron w/ Techron Fuel Injector Cleaner today, and it seemed slightly better with 15 miles or so, but I'm not sure. And sometimes when I put the clutch in and put it into neutral, the rpm's will fall BELOW idol, start to shake, then go up again. WTF is this??? It's a 2001 with 28,xxx miles. I am in the process of transferring over an extended warranty so I'll have it checked out next week, but I'm curious now.... Anjy help would be appreciated, TIA.
The idling problem is most likely the MAP sensor acting up. Do a search on idle or rough idle and you will find all the information you can handle. Also search for MAP whack.
Not sure about the other problem....

I think I have a exact same problem as you are having. Whenever I put the car in to neutral (idle),
rpm goes way down and seems like its gonna stall than it shake and rpm come up again. Also, lag at
startup started week ago also. While starting up the engine for some reason it stops for a quick
moment and then turns on completely. I can feel and also it reflects on rpm too. It lags at about
1000 - 1500 rpm. I want to know the problem with it too. I asked my mechanic friend and he said
there might be loose hose (MAP problem as oknessad said) but then I checked for loose hose but
there wasn't any. May be theres a problem to sensor it self...

The MAP sensor isn't a hose so that could be the first problem. Look where your intake meets the throttle body. It says Denso on top of it. Thats the sensor. Try disconnecting and reconnecting the wiring harness. Also tap it with the butt of a screw driver lightly. Silly as it sounds, it works miracles on some people's cars.

I have the same problem but it's not as bad as you guys...
Everytime I let the car's RPMs drop they dip below idle (sometimes a small stutter) and come back...
I'm starting to think it's normal for this car...
I also doubt any Honda Tech will even look at it to fix it for me since it's such a small problem.
