I've been toying with the question posted in this thread. I've averaged 25mpg for the last 3 tanks. My old AP1 I could get higher mpg around 28-29 most of the time and was hoping to have the same on the AP2 but haven't gotten higher than 26mpg, cruising in Iowa at 75ish when the car only had 700mi on it.. But there's only 2000 mi on the car so far, maybe a little more time will help.
Lol its funny, I always try and shift low because coming from a Z if my rpms were at 5k I'm almost redlining so I have to remind myself that I have another 3.2k to go.
Plus with my Z even going say 110 I would only reach like maybe 4.3k rpms in 5th.
That and I wasn't sure if it would be bad to have it constantly at 5k.

I had a G35 before and it just seemed high to me to be even at 5k. Thanks for the info.
Roughly speaking, all else being equal, your engine is good for a finite number of revs. If you drive at high revs per minute, the number of minutes decreases. I'll agree that the S has a high baseline.
Volumetric efficiency is a measure of how well the cylinders fill with mixture. Partly closing the throttle drops this figure drastically.
My take is that you get the best mileage in the highest gear you can use without lugging the engine.

If this logic is true, then why do I hear people report lower gas mileage when they switch to gears like 4.57s and 4.77s? With 4.77s, at 80 MPH you'd be cruising at around 5000 RPMs, still fairly below VTEC.
hmmm...most ive EVER gotten out of my tank was like 240....now that i think about it, it would be nice getting better gas milage.
i do mostly city driving like i said, could this be why i get such bad milage?
btw i have 01 with 22k miles on it...FIPK and test pipe are only "mods"
