Default EPS light

I have ordered an owner's manual, but it is not here yet. So I was wondering if someone could tell me what the EPS light means on my car? ANd what the problem could be? It comes on when I put the key in, and eventually turns off once I get going.

My car has been having trouble starting in the mornings or if I leave it anywhere for a while. I went to Autozone and they told me that I have a bad battery. I was wondering if the light coming on could be the result of having a bad battery or another problem all together.

Any advice on new battery?

EPS= Electric power steering

Nothing to do with the battery.

EPS is your Electric Power Steering. When you start the car, it goes through a self diagnostic, part of which is the confirm that the dash light works.
This is not associated with your starting situation. If you do indeed need a new battery, many have had great success with Sears Die Hard batteries for this car.

EPS = Electric Power Steering

If it had problems, you'd know. Starting problems......could be the battery. Is it the original one?

Yep, it is the original one(battery).

As for the EPS light, it stays on, after all the other lights go off, when the key is in. It only goes off after I have started the car. So is this just a gliche and nothing to worry about, or sign of something to come that I should have checked out.

If I do need to have it checked, can I have a friend that works on cars check on it, or should I take it to Honda?

If you notice the wheel is hard to turn when the engine isn't running. That is because the EPS is off until the engine is running. The EPS light will be on when it's not working and it's not working when the engine isn't running. So thats why the light is on (Yogi-ism). No problems.

Kev, I had to read that a few times out loud before it made sense! MmphsS2000, believe me, if your EPS is not working, you'll be the first to know the minute you try to pull out of the driveway!

You mean to tell me that it has always been like that?!? Damn I'm an idiot. Can't believe that I hadn't noticed it before.

Thanks for all your help.
