High mount with a relatively clear view of front and rear thru the glass is the probably the best for most all radars.

Laser is very tough. I suspect the best system is a plate mounted remote detector. Laser is a very narrow beam (with no side scatter) and doesn't easily bounce. I suspect targets the plate, grille or front/rear reflecting surface. This means that lower the detector the better. Sort of a dilemma.
I'll just get 2!

Seriously, thanks for the info. I think I need to upgrade & then figure out where to put it.

If you're really motivated to avoid tickets you go the extra distance and remove your radio and mount an in dash police scanner in your car.

How would that help?
Wouldn't they have to be on their radios for the scanner to work?

Caution, here in NJ, portable police scanners will get you in trouble (illegal). Stationary, base station types one will not. Volunteer fire folks usually have scanners at home.

Not sure what other states have for regs. Might be wise to check.

You can of course: " . . . say to yourself, do I feel lucky today? . . "

******

As far as 2 detectors. I know Escort makes a plate mounted combo unit Passport Qi45 for $549
and you can add a shifter (laser only) for $249. (Its illegal to shift radar).
I would love one but can't really justify the scratch. Need to drive a lot. I do not know how the detection range matches up with the normal Passport (which is one of the top notch rated units).

I am not pushing Escort although that is all I've owned. I think Bell and V1 have as good sensitivity but not sure if either offer the plate mounted. You should check.

Active scanner in this video - not a cb radio. From a clip that will never ever be made into a movie.
