Binocs with a gyro device for stability. They also had a camera for long range night vision under the front bumper. Www.32hours7minutes.com. Do NOT get your hopes up about the film ever being released. The Driver was the title of the book.

That video really makes me want a scanner. Has the technology improved? Last scanner I saw, you had to program what stations you wanted to scan...

Laser is very tough. I suspect the best system is a plate mounted remote detector. Laser is a very narrow beam (with no side scatter) and doesn't easily bounce. I suspect targets the plate, grille or front/rear reflecting surface. This means that lower the detector the better. Sort of a dilemma. But there are not that many laser systems out there. They likely require more trooper involvement and aiming and are more difficult to calibrate. The expensive laser systems may not produce enough tickets to justify their high price for police.

V1 actually used to state on their website that if you detected a laser, chances were that you were getting a ticket.

Scannermaster.com sells a bunch of them and can pre-program them to your county. The guys in that video used a Uniden handheld one.

Yeah, I've heard a lot of conflicting views on where to place the detector. Right now mine is high, near the mirror - maybe part of the problem?
Choosing RD placement for laser is pretty much setting up yourself for fail for reasons already stated above. In general, you're better off high mounted and not counting on laser detection.

Best system is, again, a jammer provided you don't live in a state that has outlawed them. Detection isn't useful unless you want that extra second of notification that you're getting a ticket.

How would that help?
Wouldn't they have to be on their radios for the scanner to work?
Yup. It's hit-and-miss around here (mostly miss). Our speed traps typically don't have talkative cops.

You could.

-Being caught by a cop laser radar
- cheated by a cop holding another vehicle speed on his radar, therefore he wasn't scanning.

I own a passport 8500 and it doesn't save you if the cop is behind you with the radar off and he turns it on immediately... no braking time is available..
I was caught like this once. Some of them are smart.

From the info I can find, laser jammers are only illegal in 9 states.
