Default In the essence of S2000 community...

I've heard from more than 4 different board members that my name as well as others are being cursed for contributing to the "rear gear" thread that is going on in 'Under the hood'.

Is this true? Would any of the sponsors that care to curse us out, care to openly make claim to that?

Why would you be cursing us? Is it because we are doing a service to the community at no benefit to us?

Please show me reasoning of your logic...I don't ask for much.

Don't look at me I offered to send my stock gear in so that fit could be assured. If that is the case, shit happens, nothing you can do about it. I don't approve of guys copying real items (specifically body parts) and selling inferior quality knockoffs. But that hasn't stopped anybody in the past from making a quick buck.

Dan,

I didn't figure on you complaining, especially because you offered up your stock gear.

I for one am not up for knock-offs (at least in public), but what we are doing doesn't really qualify for being described as a 'knock-off'....and I don't think anyone in that has contributed in that thread is trying to make any $$$.

The gears that we are trying to source are just meant for a different application that happen to fit our cars, much like the first gen. side marker lights that were being sold back in late 2000.

There are lots of BS rumors that circulate on a public message board which allows its participants to remain anonymous. I can tell you that there has been no such talk emanating from our shop.

Curiosity leads to innovation.

Kind Regards,
James

ps. Dan, since you are in this thread, would you find out why I am coming up as a guest? Thanks

I would like that thank all the people that helped in this "easter egg hunt", and yes, turbo_pwr was very gracious enough to offer his stock gear for comparison purposes. And I'd also like to thank other "un-named" forum members for their honesty and assistance. You know who you are.

As for people getting cheated, I would rather not call it cheated. (of course I didn't buy a rear gear at $1000) They had a knowledge that no one else knew, and they profited greatly from it. But now the light has been shed on this, and their prices need to reflect this. But it's their business, they can do as they please. But I also know that the 4.77 can be bought directly from the distributor for up to 50% off the price at the Kia dealer. With that being said, let's all see what forum sponsor gives the best price on these 4.77's. Especially since pretty much any business owner can buy at cost. And there is more than one busness owner on this forum.

Ben, from what I can gather it's really more of what the supplier charges the sponsors. I know for a fact that we don't make that much off of J's products. I would assume the same could be said of Rick or anyone else selling gears. I pay more for my J's racing gears then what Rick charges to sell his. Is it smart business? Apparently not, but at the time no one ever investigated as deeply as you guys have done.

Me sheding light on this not only impacts you guys businesses, but also the people that are trying to or are going to try to sell their rear gear. If everyone knows you can buy it new for $300 or less, they will only be able to barely get $200 to 250 for theirs used. This a lots of money at stake here. There will be lots of people pissed of at me for this. But I feel like I owe it to fellow S2000 owners to share any knowledge of this car. I'm sure there will be lots of people pissed at me, but I'm willing to bet there are way more people that will be very greatfull for me discovering all this and verifying it.

So to all of you that are and will be very angry with me, I'm sorry. But someone had to do it.

I think what you have done Big Ben is excellent.

I knew there was a good reason for why I hadn't ordered gears already.
