T1r 70mm best bang for the buck...
No, best bang for buck is, without question, the OEM exhaust. There are insignificant gains with any replacement exhaust, with the only minor improvement being weight savings with some aftermarket systems.

It could be my personal preference only but I have never heard ANY aftermarket exhaust improve the sound of a high-revving, four-cylinder engine, other than one that makes the sound quieter. Leafblower farting sounds are not cool or enjoyable.

To my knowledge there is no better warranteed system on the S2000 than the emissions system. Does any aftermarket product improve the warranty?

IMO the only reasons to spend money to replace an S2000 exhaust is because it was damaged/failed and needs to be replaced anyway, or if you are building a dedicated track car.

An aftermarket exhaust is a very poor investment from a performance perspective, one of the worst.

These are some great discussions and I love the input from everyone...

Maybe its my age but I think the term "loud" is purely subjective since what is loud to one person, is whisper quiet to another. Of course age is not always a factor since my neighbor with his crazy Vette is so deafening but he swears it sounds good...haha

Back to the subject:

I'm also shopping for an exhaust for my new s2k. On my previous 01 spa, I had a used HKS Hyper (dual) and it was a 3 piece bolt on affair. Sound is pretty throaty but even that system drones quite a bit in the higher gears at low speed. You can play with the throttle a bit to adjust the sound on the highway but on uphill decents it's pretty loud - especially when the top is up. The piping looked quite small and I know honestly there was no gain to the system so I paid just for the sound.

Now when you guys are talking about 70mm single muffler systems I can only imagine what the sound is like - I would love to hear them in person since that is the only subjective way to tell. No sound clips don't do it for me but I know it's the next best thing.

Since this is my daily driver and I sometimes put 700 miles on a short trip to Oregon, I don't want anything that even remotely drones.

My list right now includes: Fujisobo, Comptech or just leavin it stock.

btw, I prefer oval muffler cans over the circular type for some reason....

please keep the inputs coming, that's what makes this forum so invaluable!

Forgot to add: Power gain is important to me too but not worried about every hp...a Comptech Supercharger is in the works too - is it advisable to run the charger with a stock exhaust?

thanks
rick

Get the Fujit,Comptech will be much too loud for your 700 miles trips.

One other option you might consider is just removing the resonator from the stock exhaust. Zero drone, a mild increase in midrange tone and very inexpensive. As far as the oval cans go, my .02 is that oval cans look like "mufflers" and cylindrical cans look like exhaust components. But that's just me... And don't get me started on chrome .

S4Play, you definitely should go with the Fuji. It is only slightly louder then stock, but has a really nice tone with as little drone as possible from an aftermarket system. A few metro guys have this exhaust and love them, the build quality is great, and you will even get a few hp out of the dual setup. You also said that you like ovals better, I think that it is the right match for you.

Talking

I very much appreciate all your comments here - ok looks like it's a done deal, I will contact GruppeS since they are local to me and have them order that one for me!

Thanks for all the suggestions - I will post some pics once it's on the car!

Yeah I think the S2000 has as beautiful "profile" and using oval canisters is the only way to go - I previously had a HKS Hyper setup and with those round cans it really gave it a ricer look...hahaha

A small gain is nice but I'm not going to be racing this car so the sound / looks is more important. I want polished canisters and subtle but attractive tips to finish off the rear of the car.

I will post pics once it's on the car!

regards,
rick

When I see the Spa S with the chromed "mufflers" glaring out from under the rear end driving around town I'll know it's you then! Personally, I like how the less-tucked, round canisters fill in the otherwise empty, lower area of the rear end a little. With nothing down there the S looks a bit like a cat in heat with it's butt up in the air
