Exclamation Exhaust note: Still not happy...

Hey guys! Happy Holidays!

I initially posted on here a few weeks back about how my exhaust just didn't sound right with oem hardware...

So here I am about a month later with a K&N intake and a UK modded exhaust... (I think the muffler shop did 1 and 3/4 inches)..
And now my exhaust is louder...but not pleasant sounding... just boomy.... it doesn't drone or anything but it doesn't sound like I think this car should sound.

Don't get me wrong I don't want a loud, droney, or raspy exhaust but I would like some emotion! Cracks! burbles! something!

Did my muffler shop go too big with the piping?
Should I invest in something like the HKS Silent Hi-Power duals?
Should I just give up and sell the car?
Will a Honda always sound like a vacuum cleaner?
please help!

crappy welds and he also didn't listen to my instructions (asked him to have it a much better angle for flow...)

Curved transitions would have helped with exhaust flow if they listened to you but do you know how large the opening is at both ends of the "mod"? The shop may have only drilled a hole instead of cutting it out which will restrict the sound even more.

Saw them use a rotating disk so I’m assuming it’s an actual hole.. it would hysterical/laughable if they didn’t actually match the pipe with the same size hole...

again the noise level is definitely louder it’s just not a nice note..

the more I look at the photos I think the pipes they used are too large

There are two most popular pipe mods for this, 38mm and 44mm. I did the 38mm but eventually replaced the stock modded exhaust to get to the sound I was looking for.

I don't think you are going to find an exhaust that will have crackle and burble on an NA S2. You are mostly only going to get sound volume. My Greddy Dual has a slight popping sound on start-up, but definitely doesn't sound like the sport exhuasts on some OEM cars.

The UK mod seems to require a lot of trial and error.

I got a bit of "burble" from the Invidia Q300 behind a Berk high flow cat but it was otherwise undriveable. Hearing protection required and droned. Three weeks after installation I went with the Tanabe Medalion Touring. Three years ago this spring and remain pleased. "Gentlemanly performance" describes the sound. I routinely get "I like the sound." from the auto shop/parts guys.

A rotating disk? That sounds like a cutoff wheel. No way to cut the correct size hole with such a tool.

With such total hack welding skills, it wouldn't surprise me if the bypass holes they made in the stock pipes were undersized and not even round. If they did use the cutoff wheel to make the holes then the hopes are at best squares, or perhaps triangular, and way undersized.

If the shop didn't have a drillbit large enough, or a reciprocating body saw or jig saw, and resorted to using cutoff wheel, well that would just suck.

honestly it really shows that you get what you pay for..
i even brought in high resolution color photos of exactly what to do...

the guy looked at it for 5 seconds and told me “you internet too much”

im gonna try and make an appointment at a respected muffler shop and see if they help me out. But honestly I have a feeling that the s2000 just doesn’t sound great... please prove me wrong.
