Anything custom is going to cost more than the mass-produced version of the same item.
If you want a cheap dual that will produce power, go with Invidia. If you have some more cash, go with the T1R Sparrow. I've seen about 4hp and 8hp gains from them, respectively.
We ALL want the Amuse... if there was a cheaper way to have it, we'd all be doing it.
actually you are very mis informed... Lets take the j's single exhaust... I built a replica or had one built. Got a muffler exactly like the j's one from magna flow... Got an underside pic of the j's exhaust and the muffler shop did it exactly like the j's.. I was gonna even have them put and angled tip like the j's but i kept it straight cuz i like that look more.
whole thing cost me $250, its light as hell and from what i can feel it picked up power. dynoing this thursdat at 12pm (west coast time )
A muffler shop isn't gonna dyno cars to see which build actually makes power. If you only want sound then a muffler shop can help you. If you want performance you have to expect to pay.
On the other hand, I'll inform you. VersionJDM has a 70mm (2.75 inch) custom exhaust. All mandrel bends and picked up some power. You can try that but If you like your ears I suggest you don't
because i dont know!!! i am having a hard time deciding dual or single!!
Make a priority list including the following: weight, power, build quality, sound, sound volume.
For me, it was like this:
1 sound (absolutely no farty-ness)
2 volume (relatively quiet)
3 build quality (I don't plan on keeping the exhaust for 5+ years)
4 power (just no decreases)
5 weight (just had to be lighter than stock)

what kind of material is your custom make exhuast?
A competent muffler shop should be able to make an exhaust for this car. A single would be fairly easy as long as you arn't expecting any exotic materials in the pipeing. I would be lighter, and any power gains would be debateable.
Don't expect them to be able to duplicate the Amuse in any thing more than a simple, generic, shadow of the original. The way the Amuse is put togeather is not an easy task and would be, IMHO, way beyond what the boys at the local garage are capable of.
dude, having installed J's mufflers I can tell you this is nothing like them. In fact, not even in the same ball park.
You cheaped out. Your exhaust is nothing like the J's minus you might have a single and your muffler is roughly the same shape. The J's is full titanium, weighs next to nothing and sounds amazing.
Good custom exhausts can be done but a good custom job with cost as much or more than a good ready made piece.

I don't really want to get into an argument here, as this isn't even my thread... I'm just going to say a few things.
Most shops don't use stainless steel for their custom piping, and I don't think anyone will use titanium, which is what the original poster wanted to replicate. They also have no idea if their pipe design will produce power or not. It might look like a great design, but a bend or lack of a bend somewhere could cost HP, cause a drone at certain RPM, ect. It's very hit-or-miss unless it's a shop like Spugen that's done many S2000 designs before.
Also, you're giving an example of a single exhaust. That's much less complex than having someone try to duplicate a dual.
if you pay someone enough you can have anything made! i made this but if i were to charge shop fees it would cost about $2400 just for the axle back, which costs more than an amuse R1
