They've done a few news stories on premium gas on tv since the price of gas has gone up so much. The fact is that we've always had to pay 20 cents more per gallon no matter what the price of gas was, so why is it such a big deal now. My S2K gets 24 mpg around town and 28 on the highway, which imo cancels out having to pay a bit more for gas.

The reason beofotch's question is a good one is because there is a trend at some gas stations, in the kansas city area it's BP, that charge more than 20 cents more than regular. I've seen it as much as 35 cents more than regular gas. Only 10 percent of fuel sold in the states is premium. Some gas stations around the country no longer take credit cards in order to make more money, so it makes me wonder if they will start to charge more for premium gas.

FYI:
Don't ever go to St. Louis and ask them about putting 85-87 octane in your car. They think anything less than 93 octane is bad luck!

Hello,

I am mulling buying an s2000. I'd like to hear some user's experiences about the highest octane and the lowest 87 octane and whether or not they'd risk putting the 87 into their s2000? Any thoughts?
I think you should try it and report back to the board after a few years...

Just follow the manual:

1. Premium fuel.

2. Avoid MMT (rare o/s of Canada).

I would add to try to avoid E10 if you can. My car can tell the difference.

Even when gas was about $1 per gallon there was a 20 cent difference between premium and regular.

At $4 per gallon, same 20 cent difference. The "premium for premium" is unchanged and even much less on a percentage basis.

Can I put in the biodiesel I have been developing in my lab for the last 3 months? I get grease from the local mexican restaurant, and it only takes 16 days to refine. Any luck with that?

Why are we attacking a fellow s2K'er? Anyone should be able to ask any question. If they make a mistake and don't ready the THOUSANDS of posts then fine help them, provide a link, provide a quote, don't just start something.

This forum has an excellent reputation for its members and how we stick together and provide unsurpassed information on the S. Lets not ruin it.

Why can't we all just get along???

It's a good rule-of-thumb to follow the manufacturer-suggested-OR-BETTER. Don't ever go less for a few dollars of savings. With regards to lesser-octane gas, you actually lose fuel-efficiency.
