Default experience with top frame being bent?

ok..you can say i have had questionnable car Karma....while in the body shop for an at fault accident the car was vandalized and broken into. it is now perfect, really except for the top.

back to the top shop, which was repaced...it just does not completely come all the way forward to latch, you have to manually pull it down and straighten it just a little bit....so the top shop guy goes to a honda dealer and tries a new top...yes, it is the frame and not the new fabric top being too tight. so they remove the new top and now just have the frame on the car...

what i want to know is has anyone ever had this experience: a bent top frame which does not make for a proper seal to do the latches without a tug of war??? if you have had this experience or had your top fixed or replaced did they get it right? what needed to be done? is the top frame a fixable deal? has anyone has this done for whatever reason? your experience please???? what do or did they do to repair?

Well i guess this was an unique experience...at this point the top shop has removed the top...i suggested a bent frame, sure enough it was and i am getting a new frame...so if your top does not latch properly and or does not close straight, it is the frame and not the actual top material.

and the frame is costing the responsible party about 1500 plus the 1100 they paid for the top vandalism.

Good thing you know where to send the bill. Most of the time it's a mystery.

Sounds like you need a new frame, once this is replaced your top should close properly and with less effort. However, it takes some time for the New Top to loosen up a little so you may have to pull the top down whie latching for a little while.

I am having the same problem right now, I have an extended warranty, but they will only cover the frame and not the actual top material. I took my car into the dealership and they couldn't find where the bend was so they said they would replace the main parts of the frame. The parts are about $1500 and he said it would take about 10 hours of labor. He told me they had never replaced a frame on an s2000 without replacing the top as well, and he said that they would not be held responsible if the top got torn during the process. So I called another dealership in town and they told me to bring it to them and they said they would replace it if they tore the top.

hmmmm..... Something I have to pay attention to I guess. My frame and top were just replaced. My car is at the body shop still, so I guess I better put it up and down a few times before I sign for delivery.
