An extended warranty may not help resale value. Some extended warranties cannot be transferred to a new owner. Some can be transferred to a new owner for a fee.
$950 sounds unbelievably high for a 2 year/24K warranty.

Bought MY01 from a GM dealer who also owns a Honda dealership
Purchased a GM major guard ( transferable) 4 yr bumper-to-bumper warranty for $1k
Bought the car used & wanted peace of mind
It's worth the $250/yr
I sleep well at night!

I think many of these extended warranties can be negotiated. Also, I've noticed that depending on the dealer, different companies (third party) are used. I've heard both good and bad stories. In one case, the third party company went bankrupt. Basically, you're hosed if that happens.
I recently extended the warranty on my 2000 Porsche 911 to an additional 4 years/50K miles (total of 8 years/100K) for $2400. I thought it was a decent deal. I've never sold a car with an extended warranty so not sure how much of an impact it will make, assuming I do sell the car within the next 1-2 years. I'd expect an extended warranty to make more of a difference for German cars, which tend to be more expensive to maintain after 50K miles. Not sure about the S2000 - I just picked up a 2004 ~2 months ago. If the S2000 is like an Integra, I don't think extended warranties will do much because most of the problems seem to come up after 100K miles.

have you owned any 2002 or newer porsches? i really want to get a boxster s, but am waiting until i can get a new one. i fear that boxsters are not as reliable as s2000's.

For the Hondacare policy, that price is right on target. When I had my 01', I purchased an extended warranty. If I went with Hondacare it would have been the same price and mileage restriction. However, I went with another company they worked with and got a 3yr/75K mile warranty for the same price. I ended up trading in my 01' for an 03', so I cashed in (yes, I got all my money back) my extended warranty. Although it was transferrable, it wasn't going to get me my $1K back that the warranty cost. So I was better off cashing it in. Luckily for me, I cashed in on the first 60 days of the policy, so I was due a full refund.
I recommend an extended warranty for your own piece of mind and due to the fact that the S2K is a "fickle" car and has had many problems reported down the road. I will purchase one for my car before my regular warranty wears out. But, I will purchase through Hardtopguy, as he offers a great deal on the Hondacare package.
These extended warranties are backed by insurance companies, so just find a company that has been in business for quite some time and has good service and reports from the BBB.
