Folks, after my little incident above I subsequently (around 6 months later) had the car dynoed with 1/2 a dozen other owners and my car was generating the most horsepower on the day. So there was definitely no top end damage.

Funny Story

I mis-shifted at 800miles. Exactly the moment I decided I end my break-in. I glanced at my friend and said something like, "here we go". Started running third up to 7k-and then hit full throttle... RRRRRR.... Shift .... BBBARRRRRRRRR... The tachometer lit up like a christmas tree. I quickly threw it in neutral, looked at my friend again.. We both had that OMG look...

After I settled down, gave it some good revs then threw into 5th, she sounded quite fine. Hit third again, and it felt/sounded hella smooth but oH so tight. Never had any problems. I transitioned to Mobil1 at 3300miles, some say this is to early. Anyhow the car pulls good, and gets faster every so often. I look forward to the winter, there goes my first set of rear tires. I'm sure I could have babied it more, but I didn't buy it for that. To wrap up this rambling of a story, I must say... The F20C made one of the most beautiful sounds I ever heard that day. Sounds like it would take a good 12.5K rpm to really hurt anything. Awesome vehicle.

what does excessive valvetrain noise sound like? Suppose there is a problem with bad idle, is there anything you can do to correct it? Does it hurt the cars performance?

it sounds like bunch of loose metallic noises just vibrating excessively. you correct it by replacing the head/valvetrain if you've damage them, usually its valve float.

If one of the sensors found something wrong it'll send a code to the ECU and the scanner will tell us if there is a code and what it is. If it's anything like my friends Si it just threw a code that said something along the lines of engine rpms exceeding the max something. He caught his quick enough and had no engine or valve damage. Sounds like you lucked out though it all is still running right.

See ya Sunday
Karim
