My owner's manual states for the breakin period (page 99): "Do not change the oil until the scheduled maintenance time", which is "Every 7,500 miles (12000 km) or every 1 year, whichever comes first" (page 125). It is amazing how many s2k owners think they know better about oil changes than the Honda engineers do. The same type of people cause aircraft crashes and similar incidents because they think they know better than the designers and can't follow procedures.

If you check your manual again, you will notice that there are two maintenance schedules...3750 or 7500 miles...severe or normal. Nice try at scaring people into thinking their car might crash and burn though.

Well, an s2k probably won't last too long in what is normally considered "severe" conditions anyway. Why would anyone want to spend most of their time driving their s2k on dusy dirt roads and in sub zero tempertures just so they can change their oil at 3750 miles? Oops, guess you would!

My AP1 ate a lot of oil starting from day 1, like a quart per 1K miles. My AP2 is consuming much less. Somewhere over 1K miles and I'm only down about 1/16" on the dipstick.

You have to be careful what you say here, or somebody might actually believe you.

There are many conditions that might put you into the severe driving maintenance schedule. You should re-read your owners manual and decide for yourself what schedule you fit into. If you fit the bill, then you should change your engine oil based on the 3750 mile schedule. If you are unsure, do UOA's like I do. This is a good way to tell if your OCI is too long or too short. The owners manual is a good starting point though, and should be adhered to if you don't do UOA's. That is good insurance against fuel dilution, oil shearing/thickening, glycol/coolant content, moisture content, H2O content, and silicon (dirt) content in your engine oil. Good luck and have fun. The severe schedule is there for a reason!

I just read and quoted from the manual, which far exceeds the apparent capabilitys of many posters in the forum. You can believe the manual or not. It's your car, treat it as you want.

Six reason, actually:

Driving MAINLY:

- less than 5 mi per trip (10 in freeing temps)
- in hot environments (over 90
