Factory Alarm
A good quality alarm system will help eliminate some problems and issues with longevity. As far as security is concerned, the quality of the install is the most important part. I should have clarified, Im talking about aftermarket alarm systems. Hiding the brain in an odd place, wiring, sensors, etc, etc. A splice is only as reliable as the quality of the work

the dealer installed option is done by KARR. the good way to tell also is to look under the dash for the blue LED with the valet light.
mine has a shock sensor and a perimeter sensor built in. this is a dealer installed option from the factory.

The S2000 comes with keyless entry standard, which makes some people think it has an alarm already. When you upgrade to the OEM security system, you get new remotes that look exactly the same as the keyless remotes, except they now control the alarm.
What if they don't open the door or hatch..., if they rip the top? I have a sensor that detects vibration in the car. If you bump up against the car it goes off. Wouldn't that be better? Sensitivity is an issue but on mine I have a dial that I can tune the sensitivity so simply bumping it won't set it off but continue to bump and it will. Also it goes off once as a warning then if the bumping continues it goes off as an alarm...,
Does that make sense? this was a rather low end alarm as well.

Alright so I'm curious. I've wanted to buy the factory alarm ever since I bought my S. But what is this talk about dash factory mounted light. Are we sure its not for the 04 and ^? I've got an MY 03 and I see no such thing. I'd love it if it was in the dash. Either way my buddys MY 01 has it by the E-Brake. With that said when you get the new remotes do you have to go to honda to program them?
The "dash factory mounted light" does not exist on the early S2000 model years. The OEM alarm includes an LED that you mount to the center console by the hand brake after drilling a small hole.
IIRC (it's been almost 7 years), the remotes that came with the alarm were already paired to work with it. Even if they're not programmed, the sequence for adding additional remotes is something the owner can easily do, no need to go to the dealer. I believe it was documented in the installation instructions.

Ok thats cool. I do feel like an idiot though, I had a brain fart. I do now remeber programming a cople of these remotes for some customers a while back for a toyota. Dur... Anyways thanks.
