Default Factory S2000 Alarm

Is this a worthwile option?

Few questions:

1. does it use the horn as a siren
2. does it have a proximity sensor (say if someone sticks their hand into the car with the top down)

3. what sets the alarm off (pulling the door handle?)

- should i skip it and go with aftermarket?

thanks.

I purchased the stock alarm... it comes down to price... how much does the dealership want to sell you the stock alarm for?

1) yes
2) no, but some websites sell proximity sensors that you can add to an OEM alarm...however, they don't recommend it.
3) opening the door if the alarm is armed, and breaking glass because the OEM Main Unit has that glass sound sensor on it. alarm does NOT trigger if someone gets close or if someone bumps the car...only if the doors are opened, the trunk is opened, the hood is opened (if you have this option) and if the glass is broken.

pretty much, its a basic alarm that does it job...makes people aware that someone is trying to get into the vehicle...but does nothing to deter people from the car when they have the thought, ie, shock and prox...

i went with aftermarket with a pager thing...but mine sucks...

I went with the stock alarm and installed it myself. It got it for a good price and the instructions were very clear.

It's a basic alarm, as Mike said. I like it because it as the auto-rearm with doorlock feature. I suppose any aftermarket system would, too.

I contemplated getting a fancy one, but figured all it would come down to is a lot of false alarms.

i'm getting another alarm installed tomorrow, and my stock alarm should be coming off at the same time. if it looks reuasable, it'll probably be for sale. good luck with the stock alarm, i had it for a little more than a year, and no one ever vandalized my car.
