Default Faded Tail Light Troubles

Hey guys. My 01 S has faded AP1 tailights (literally clear). If you don't know what I mean, Google "Faded S2000 Tail Light" or something similar. I read that Honda put a non-compliance recall on them (00-01 tail lights), and a few years ago you could get the 02-03 AP1 tail lights free. Well the problem is, my car is multiple owner, is way out of warranty, and the tailights have been opened. I did not open them, but you can tell the previous owner cracked them open. I really want the new 02-03 AP1 tail lights, but I'm scared Honda will deny them because its an old recall; and if they accept when they see that mine have been cracked open they'll back out. Ive read that talking to Honda of America is way easier and gets better results than going to a dealer. I need to know how to persuade Honda to send me new ones, and/or advice to how to get Honda to give them to me. Thanks.

I honestly wouldn't even bother due to them being cracked open if its that obvious Honda will surely notice and void the warranty if there is even still one in the first place. If it was me I would just be looking on the forums/ebay for a new set in the condition you want and selling these cheaply to recoup some money. Personally I wouldn't feel comfortable trying to get Honda to replace something that was probably not helped any due to the fact someone cracked them open and probably didn't reseal them properly.
Could also wetsand them also to see if that makes them look any better if you're completely against purchasing a set yourself.

If it is truly a recall and not a service bulletin, then I think they are required to change them.

It was a safety recall and they will replace them with new AP1 lights.

Hey guys, sorry for coming back to an old post. Today I called Honda of America about the tail light non-compliance recall, but I got no luck with getting them replaced. The lady says that this does not affect my S2000. She does have a point, because the recall only affects MY00 S2000s. Even though my effected S2000 is a MY01, it still has the exact same tail lights and more importantly it is faded white. Is there any argument I have in my favor to get the upgraded AP1V2 tail lights free from Honda? Thanks.

Just buy some used OEM AP1 tail lights ( non '00 ) and be done with it.

FWIW, I had mine replaced under the recall.

No Honda dealer is going to replace them on theor own. But if you make enough noise, and it reaches actual Honda management, they could be worried the recall could expand, or they just might want to excercise good will and make an executive decision to give you a new set.

Take photos of your taillights, and email them to every Honda email address you can find.
