Finally drove an S2000 . .
I've been in love with this car ever since I first saw it 2 years ago. I finally test drove it last night. I realize some of the comments about this car have been way off base and some are pretty accurate:
1) "The ride is bone jarring" - Not true. Coming from Prelude, the ride was the same, as far as firmness, but much more supple. Overall, much nicer ride than a Prelude.
2) "No low-end torque" - True. It doesn't have the pin you to the back of the seat torque.
3) "The engine has a Jekyl and Hide personality" - Well, I'm used to VTEC, so the crossover wasn't pronounced to me at all.
4) "The car isn't for tall people" - Not true. I'm 6 feet, and the driver's side fits me better than my Prelude. Much more of a natural driving position. The passenger side is a different story. I felt cramped there.
5) "It has the best shifter out there" - True. The clutch/shifter combo is out of this world. Totally effortless and natural.
This car makes my Prelude feel like my Grandma's car. The S2000 feels like a pod racer. A totally natural and effortless extension of the driver. BTW, 2001's are selling for MSRP now, even in San Jose, CA.
