Default Finally got to drive a S2K. Too Slow....

My friend and I went down to the local Honda dealership that happens to be right down the street from my place. I actually didn't expect to find any there but figured what the hell.... to my surprise they had " 9 " on the showroom floor! There were about 4 yellow, 2 blacks, 2 Silvers and 1 Red. 3 of them were new 2000 models, but they were reluctant to drop much off of MSRP.

We ended up taking the red one out w/only 63 miles on the odometer. I got to drive the thing hard (sorry to the next owner) and was very disappointed with the lack of power even way up past V-tec land. The car just made alot of noise but didn't really go anywhere.

I did like the handling of the car though. Inspiring... shitty stock clutch though.

All in all I honestly expected more from the car. I'm in no way flaming the car or any of their owners, but I now have a even harder time believing all of the Street Encounters stories posted.

Just my (nobody) observation.

You come from an RX-7 and S4? No wonder why you think the S2k is slow.

But really, mid 14's are just a clutch drop away, and low 14's if you have good karma that day.

I can really say from the first point I floored my S2K at about 3,000 miles from now, I have seen a tremendous difference. The car really broke in well....

I also thought it was too slow last year when I first test drove one, but never thought of posting my negative impressions on an S2000 board (nor do I read/post/troll on other car-specific boards). What's the point?

I'm really glad I gave the S2K another chance though...even though it's still much slower than my old BPU++ Supra Turbo, I'm having a lot more fun w/ it. I can utilize a much higher % of it's performance, at safer speeds, and it's more of a visceral experience. Additionally, I underestimated now nice a convertible top is compared to a targa. Also, I kind of like the clutch after the left leg workout I used to get w/ my TRD racing clutch...

The RX-7 is a great car, but I'm not patient or mechanically adept enough to own, fix, and maintain one.

After my 1st test drive I though the same thing. 2nd test-drive convinced me otherwise. Difference was that my 1st drive was in the city with traffic around going from light to light around the block. That day I did not thing the S2000 was much quicker then my MR2 (NA). The 2nd test-drive was on a nice twisty piece of local road where I had no cars ahed - that day I realized that the S2000 is pretty fast car.

Difference is that in the city driving the S2000 resembles more an MX5 - it's not untill you get to open her up ... and keep the car constantly above 30mph that the S2000 resembles an RX7 (gen 5)

One of the reasons I like this board. Fast response. The guys seem really cool too. Not overly arrogant like alot of other boards.

Shing: I honestly don't know what you should be looking for in a second Gen as far as price. I only follow the 3rd gen's. Go to http://www.rx7club.com/vforums/index.php
for more info. Look under the For Sale/Wanted section. Good Luck!

I still find low~mid 14's hard to believe. Did you guys notice a really drastic increase in performance after break-in? Like I said the one I drove only had 63 miles on it.

I didn't have any point to make. Just the fact that I expected more from a car that I have heard so many great things about. Kinda took the sweet taste outta my mouth after driving it.

Still hope to get one next year. Keep tinkering fellas!

A) what was the point of this post?
B) in general it's a good idea to try to have a sig file that is shorter than your average post. please.

thanks.

Damn, my bad, I meant 3rd gen.

As for inprovements after breaking in... my car picked up over 5hp to the wheels after some miles.

first one is before, second one is after some miles.

BTW, the S2000 doesn't feel fast because the power delievery is fairly linear... so going by feel isn't going to be accurate.

There are guys here that have track proven high high 13's and MANY low 14's.... so yes I think low 14's is true. the problem is that if you are going by feel, the cars don't "feel" fast, but they truely are.
