First time with the airbox lid off!

I HIGHLY disagree with this statement.
A) There's not many mods @ $250 that will provide a nice 3-8hp like a K&N FiPK or comptech.
B) There's a noticeable difference in airflow
C) Going from lidless to the FiPK the sound is absolutely gorgeous. There's nothing ricey about it, and as far as attention goes you might get a couple of glances but, I've never got a second look from cops even when passing one sitting radar'ing.
D) Low RPM bog was 95% eliminated. If you're in a area where you've got inner city or highway traffic on a consistent basis, going to a different intake will make your commute 10x more acceptable.
Cliff notes; there's a night and day difference in throttle response, bog, sound when going to from the stock box to a aftermarket.

Which part of that was funny again?
A) 3-5 being bolted on, 5-8 being tuned. Give me a handful of mods in the 200-300$ range that produce that.
B) Run a datalog with your stock intake, and an aftermarket and tell me which one runs leaner?
C) Sound... is well subjective
D) I'm not sure how you can disagree with the low rpm bog. Put your stock intake on, and drive in bumper to bumper traffic. Then throw an aftermarket on and tell me you don't notice an extreme difference

[QUOTE=thomsbrain,Apr 6 2010, 09:30 PM] The point either way is that with the lid off, the heat you are producing from the engine and radiator is what largely determines your intake temp. More heat = higher temp. With the lid on, the rate at which you are sucking air is what largely determines your intake temp. More throttle = lower temp. Since we only care about power when we are hard on the throttle, I'll happily put my money on the lid on making more power since it gets cooler in that situation instead of hotter.
I know some people on this forum have said otherwise. I disagree with them.

i took the air box lid off a few months ago and was absolutely hooked on the sound, so then I bought a K&N intake and it's one of the best mods i have done. it sounds like having no air box lid, but is much lighter and won't suck in hot air from the engine. is it worth the $220 (ebay price!)? well, lets just say I don't regret that purchase at all. (worth it or not differs from person to person) gives a very nice noise at WOT and NO DRONE, unlike many exhausts. yea I could've just took off the lid for the sound, but with the intake kit i save some weight at the front of the car, prevent heat soak, and add a few hp. i like the intake sound so much i might take off my exhaust to hear it better in the future. (i installed the exhaust after the intake)
it's the second best mod i have done. the first would be the redline shift beeper by modifry. love pushing it to exactly 8k rpm then shift, everytime =)
