Default Airbox lid on or off

So Ive been driving my S with the airbox lid off for about a month now. Not only did I take the lid off but I also brought the filter out and used the hook on the top of the filter to sit on that little wall in the airbox. Now I absolutely love the sound with the lid off but I was afraid that I was losing power. So I put the lid back on this morning, and the car actually feels stronger just doesnt sound as nice (IMO). I was actually able to chirp the tires between first and second gear. Does it make anysense that the lid on would be more powerful? or is this all in my head. O and taking the lid off cause any harm to my engine?

People have said that taking the lid off will reduce HP, but the sound is nice. So if you want to maintain hp keep the lid on, if you want to lose a lil hp but keep that sound then keep it off.

Sounds nice, but thats it. Heat soak/bogging becomes a huge issue when you have the lid off in stop and go traffic on warm days.
